If I got a starter kit and went down the route of MDV and put a 2.0L duratec in it would I need to get the completion pack? If not, do you just use bits off donar cars for a lot of things and then buy some thing from Westfield that you need/want? Is this a sensible route to go down? Do others do this? What are the costs associated with this? I'm not in a rush to build and building it and the experience of that will be as important to me as using the final product.

Welcome Dave :t-up:

Your thoughts and ideas are a route many of us have gone down with our builds, myself included. There's no obligation to by the completion pack and if you are planning a lot of variation and changes from "standard" then simply buying the starter kit gives a lot more flexibility to source your own parts to customise the build.

In my case i didn't buy the completion kit as I was planning a few changes from the standard Mazda based kit I bought. it worked out more expensive this way though and probably added 20% to the build cost, but as a benefit it allowed me to spread the cost of buying everything over the year of the build and I didn't have to find space to store it all :d

These days very little of the car is sourced from donors vehicles. In the case of the multi donor kit you're looking at, the only donor parts would be the engine, gearbox , diff, brakes and uprights. The rest of the parts would be included in either the starter or completion kits.

As said already I'd suggest having a conversation with Simon Westwood at Westfield who is their Sale and Marketing Manager. If you discuss your ideas and plans with him they should be able to recommend the best route for you to take with the build, either as an Multi-donor kit or modular build, and likewise could price a package to tailor a kit of parts to suit your needs, such as by supplying all the parts necessary to assemble the car to a rolling chassis stage.

IMO a trip to Stoneleigh is a must do, you'll find plenty of like minded owners there to talk to, and many cars to draw inspiration and ideas from for your own car.

Good luck :t-up:

I take your point about possibly wanting something different in a few years. I guess I'll do my research and take my time and then if I want to change it at some point in the future I'll either make alterations or sell and do it again.

Stoneleigh looks hopeful as my mate is free and keen to go. Was going on all weekend to the wife about kit car so might leave it a week or so to mention it into conversation. Slowly, slowly, catches monkey....

Thanks Mark. Sounds like I'd need both starter and completion pack which is about £10k plus donar parts and registration so about the £12k mark sounds like the sort of money I'd be looking at.

Probably a bit more if you start upgrading as you are building, too many great ideas on this forum ;) .   Stick with the standard parts and could end up about £12k.
