Le Mans 24hr 2014 - Advice gratefully received!

Take it easy on the way home and allow loads of time for the journey and schedule in plenty of stops.

You'll be totally knackered and the last thing you'll want to do is chase a departure time.

It's all to easy to make a driving mistake when you are in a rush and driving tired and that could be fatal.

Chaz.

There's some fantastic advice here, gents. Very much appreciated  :t-up:

My car is road-going, but track-focused.  So I'll be putting the spare wheel back on, as well as trying to fit the boot box back on.  I'm going to try to stick some tools inside the spare wheel on the back. Not sure whether that will work yet though!  And I'd not thought before about putting stuff under the bonnet (in sensible places) ... so will also look at that.  It sounds like my mate and I need to do a quick trial run one weekend beforehand to see what we can fit in and where ... and then plan what to buy once there.

Tom, Julian, glad to hear that there will be some other Westfields around :)  You are just across the track from us, I think?  I'll pm my number and wander over on one of the days, if I may, so that we can chat cars over a beer :)

Jas, that is good advice about European Breakdown Coverage.  Definitely on my 'must sort out' list now.

Mark, thanks, in particular, for the advice on what's going on when. I sort-of knew the schedule, but its great to get some info on where to be and when  :t-up:

Ian, your point is very well made!  One of the reasons we chose the Chunnel was that it allows some flexibility around departures.  I could see that we were going to be dog-tired on the Sunday and wanted to take it relatively easy on the way back with lots of stops.

I'm trying to get hold of a luggage rack for my RAC bar (I've an advert in 'Parts Wanted') ... so that we can have a bit more room there (rather than trying to lash everything down on the boot lid somehow!).

Any other great tips to be had out there?  All advice very much welcomed ... and I'll be combing beermountain.com this weekend :)

Just a passing thought, but can you put the spare wheel on backwards?  I think the long bolts are just standard M12.

A trial run sound good

Go for it.

I know Julian has also booked us a parking place down by the track as well, if you get hold of Julian and he tell you how he booked it etc and we all might be able to meet up.

Yep, a trial run is a good idea. We did a trial run about 6 weeks before the event, it's amazing how much you can stow away. Time for some creative thinking ..........

This will be my consecutive 22nd year!

You will love the circuit campsites! total Le Mans experience! If not a bit noisey!

Find fuel can be tricky if you're driving back Sunday night!
