Best roadside assistance company for my Westie

Received my AA renewal for £185 recently and realised that I had been a member for 28 years not used it for some 10 years, and both the tin tops are covered by the Manufacturers for roadside assistance as they are both serviced by main dealers so I cancelled it.

I checked online and spoke to the AA and Green flag and they do not seem to conversant with Westfield's and the RAC do not list them although they list Caterham's . I rang my insurers Frank Pickles and they recommend  ALP Road Rescue, anyone any experience of them or alternative companies. I cover about 1000 miles a year and just need adequate recovery back home or to my local Ford specialist in case of the unexpected, it's never missed a beat in 7000 miles but during my first blatt of the year yesterday with no cover I felt a bit vulnerable with the rev counter constantly wanting to find the red section.

Thanks in anticipation.

I use Start Rescue, only needed them once when the sump landed on a raised kerb. Excellent service and very low policy costs. When they knew it was skit car that wanted recovering they ensured the recovery vehicle had a bed that dropped low enough to enable the car to loaded, it was a bank holiday Monday and they apologised for keeping me waiting for 40 minutes.

I will certainly be renewing with them.

Can't remember the name of the company I'm with but if was not much but it was arranged together with insurance (through A-plan) so kit car friendly the other family vehicles are all with start rescue though and they provide a good service, including an iPhone app which can be used to provide updates and location information.

I use ADAC Premium, full EU & UK Cover. have used them for years as some of my other cars have been over 10/15 years old and some Breakdown Companies either wont cover it or charge massive premium. Used ADAC twice for breakdowns, once in UK and once in Germany, can't complain at all.

$79 Euro's for a year - £63?

Thanks all, after a bit of research I have gone with "Start Rescue" I looked through their FAQ and as usual did not include mine, sent a message via their web site and received a telephone reply shortly afterwards, everything I need for £35.45. My main concern was a suitable recovery vehicle that would not damage the Westie, they have the experience and it was suggested when phoning for assistance when they ask " are there any modifications to the vehicle"  you tell them the road clearance is less then 4 inches and they will come prepared.

Cheers

if you ring the AA and moan they will drop the price, I've  recovery, home start, for me and Mrs H for I recall about £120 this year.

Note that the AA will recover from a track day as they don't consider it motorsport

Same here. Got my RAC renewal a couple of weeks ago £220. Rang them up and told them that it was way too much. Lets see what we can do, they then dropped the price to £118 for the same cover. How can they justify the additional charge they tried to get away with. Rip off Britain again.

I did object and was offered a lower cost with the AA but it was £185 down to £160 against £35  and I was quite happy to ditch the last contact with the AA as having insured both the tin tops and my house with their insurance when I came to make a minor claim for a parking incident on the CEOs car their underwriters, assessors,  and repairers, proved to so incompetent they would all have failed an interview for a job at "World of Quid".

Mine was recovered by whoever HSBC use as their breakdown cover. No questions, even tried to send out a flat bed rather than a tow truck.

I don't think they cover Europe tho

I use this, it is a different concept but there is no catch it is great, and cannot be beaten for value, one price of £39 road side, relay, homestart, for me the wife and any of our 4 cars :)

Just some thing to check on guys if you are carrying a dog in the car (not very likely in Westfield but also applies to tin top) most recovery firms either wont take the dog or leave it to the recovery drivers discretion.

Been a big debate in the dog press quite recently after some people broke down in a motor home and got wiped out on the hard shoulder leaving injured people and 4 dead dogs, recovery refused to take the rest of the dogs.

Worth checking if you travel with your dog on a regular basis as we do.

I've used the roadside assistance cover you get with Adrian Flux twice in one year.  It was very good service, they use local companies for recovery.
