Small world

One of the little bonuses of being MemSec is noticing when club members are very near each other.

Many of you will remember grahamf who lives in a town of 30,000 people in California and built a.Mazda SDV.  Imagine my surprise when we gained another member yesterday, gparker, getting ready to start his Mazda SDV (kit on the boat at the moment), who lives in the same town - and they didn't know each other.

I've put them in touch and hopefully they can meet up and discuss all things Westfield in the California sunshine!

Such a small world... :)

Maybe the factory should give a years free membership to wscc with every new kit sold

Just think of all the time they would save on tech questions :)

This club and it's members have to be the factories greatest asset when it comes to spreading the word ;)

Could be good for the club too

I think that would be a brilliant idea ☺ Even if they aren't willing to go that far maybe they could give out a WSCC publicity pack with each car sold.

This has been debated a load of times although I can't recall where we are with it. Something is to be done with a WSCC pack at purchase I believe...?

I'm sending off more promotional blurb and membership forms to the factory for the reception and parts area today, a regular thing.

We have apparently done this (free membership with kit) in the past, but we have to work closely in admin with Kingswinford, plus you're asking them to take a profit cut so they might be inclined to limit the offer to complete kits rather than starter kits.  But I plan on having a chat with Simon and Julian about it at Stoneleigh and see what we can do together. :t-up:

I've had the same chat too.

Club information is on display at Kingswinford. But a more pro-active approach? Well that will take a few changes.

Complete kits would be a good start :) for free membership

It's a two way street we get members and the new members can tap into the wealth of information on the search and members knowledge 24 hours a day 7 days a week as a back up to the factory's 9 to 5.30 assistance week days

Nothing worse than having to halt a project when in full swing at 10.30pm to ask the question after the weekend

I visited the factory last February, and really didn't know if I were going to buy a car or not. Simon pulled a bunch of WSCC stuff out and gave it to me. It wasn't until later that I realized WSCC is a separate organization.

Delighted that Simon did so  :t-up:

There was almost a third. I know of another person about to start an S2000 SDV build who lived in Los Gatos, but has since moved into San Francisco. Don't know if he has joined yet, but I recommended that he join.

The California Caterham Club has also had a yearly event there for the past three years

I will try to make it this year, as this is about 1 mile from my house.

Hmmm yes, the Catering Van club, they are bit sniffy here if you mention Westfields.     We do have a couple of Catering van owners on this forum though and they are nice guys.

Los Gatos has the perfect combination of mountain roads, sunny weather, and no road salt. The only downside is that British Racing Green is dangerously invisible camouflage while driving through a redwood forest. That's why I'm building an outrageously orange car.

I'd not realised this was a safety device :d Glad I haven't just put a black car on the road...
