Jay love Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Watched that film Rush last night, a bit boring till about half way through, it was sort of telling the story between James hunt and niki lauda then it sort of gets really good, the driving was something else back then, and niki lauda was probably the gustiest bloke I've ever seen, to crash and sit in burning fuel for over a minuet, his lungs were burnt really bad as well, then fight it, get his lungs vacuumed out loads then six weeks later force his helmet back on over the burns and come forth in a race, he has got to be the one of most single minded, stubborn figures to have ever walked this planet, respect, it sort of paints James hunt in a good light also, good film, wish my kids could watch it, but the is some sex screams it in don't know why they have to but it in everything these days Quote
Jay love Posted February 6, 2014 Author Posted February 6, 2014 Sex scenes bl**** predictive text lol Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Oh I don't know, you weren't far out the first time! Quote
pistonbroke Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I just watched the DVD of this , thought it was a quite well made film of the Hunt v Lauda Saga However if you wanted to know the full story, have a read of this mind boggling book ! http://www.amazon.co.uk/Shunt-The-Story-James-Hunt/dp/0956565603 Quote
jeff oakley Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Different times and people. Lauda was so brave to overcome what he did, I doubt he would have been allowed back in a car these days in that state. And Hunt, well he was a man's man and lived life to the full whilst he could. Again in this coporate world we live in Hunt being caught ****** the groupies in the back of the garage, would see sponsers leaving in their droves, or him being sacked. When you look at the cars of today and how safe they are, it is down to the likes of Lauda and Stewart for making an issue of dieing for a sport so important. Quote
SootySport Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I see it last week courtesy BT TV films. Some of the track scenes look like Oulton Park or Cadwell Park, am I right there? The sex scenes you talk about were quite a vital part of James Hunt's life so that's why they were included. Quote
pete g Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I also watched it last week and thought it was the best film I had seen for ages Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Some of the track scenes look like Oulton Park or Cadwell Park, am I right there? i know they filmed at both Brands Hatch and Crystal Palace, but I hadn't heard about Oulton and Cadwell being used. They dressed up Brands and used the GP loop to look like a few different circuits. Quote
SootySport Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Just see the hilly parts of the circuit and the trees and to me re-sembled Oulton & Cadwell. Must have done a lot work at Brands to make it look like 70's circuit or just green screened a lot. Quote

The sex scenes you talk about were quite a vital part of James Hunt's life so that's why they were included. I'm 99% sure that they shot it at those circuits with a little at the Ring. When I saw the film I was expecting more sex, drugs and general rock N'Roll going on with Hunt. His biography is somewhat eye opening (or popping!). Although the film ends while all that is still very much on an upward curve. Quote
Stuart Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Donington and Blackbushe airport too. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1979320/locations Quote
pickmaster Andy Lowe Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 I enjoyed it Best film I've seen this year (it's only feb) Just glad it wasn't like fast and furious tooooooo many gear shifts!!!!!! Quote
Justin767 Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 I enjoyed that film.. Such intense rivalry but such underlying respect.. Hunt beating up the disrespectful reporter being a prime example! I was on a plane soon after Paul Walker's untimely demise and decided to watch the latest Fast and Furious film.. As pickmaster says, about 13 gear changes to be doing 90 !?! ( I only use one to 90 when doing a standing start in my Seight.!!. ) ..as for all the huge jumps without trashing the cars !?! - my mate's XR3 used to split it's front wings every time he wanted me to take 'action photos' of him jumping a local humpbacked bridge!! Terry Everall Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Seen it and thought ok but not sure it will appeal to everyone and was a bit short of real action IMHO Quote
WINGNUT Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Agree with you on that terry! Really enjoyed the film but could I done with more action racing wise! Was only saying to my dad the other day, as it was just before my time would be interested to know how truthful certain aspects were. Think that book may help lol! Film puts into reality how gladiator like they were back then, just like superbike riders still are today! F1 drivers these days fall into the football category for me! Shame I used to enjoy it, the days of mansell and senna were the last true grit guys for me! Quote
