A Weekend of hard work!

Broke the back of the donor car work over the weekend, Removed the engine, stripped the interior and got all of the wiring out, pretty good going on my own, in a single garage, without a hoist I'd say  :d. The local scrap man had to make 3 trips to my parents house to take most of the metalwork away.

All that needs to be done now is to remove the rear subframe, fuel tank, exhaust, prop and final cut the body up into manageable chunks.

On a lighter note I got confirmation yesterday that my SDV starter kit will be ready for collection between the 26-28th of next month, with the 27th being my birthday!

Happy building,

Good progress :t-up: a new Westfield kit will be a great Birthday present for you too

Once you reach the stage of refurbishing the donor parts there's a few seals and parts I'd suggest changing on the engine whist it's out of the car. There's a list here on Dave's build site you may find useful.

Yes, sounds like a good weekends work.

Crack on with the cleaning and refurbishment of the donor parts whilst waiting for the kit, then you crack straight on when it arrives

Are you planning on flogging off unwanted bits of the donor car on e-bay?  There's usually a fair bit of dosh to be made.  I managed £300 on mine and I think others may have done more than that.  Seats were the biggest item at around £100, but I even got £18 for the rear view mirror!

Spent another day in the garage today! Its a good job swmbo has had work booked for the last couple of weekends! I've cut the car in half across the door apertures and down the centre of the screen and bulkhead/tunnel - so its in 3 pieces now!

Also managed to get the rear subframe out and the rear suspension mostly stripped - just need to remove the fuel tank now. The lower bolts in the rear wishbones are welded to the uprights aswell, so they need attacking.

All in all a good days work and more of the same tomorrow!

Why are you taking the fuel tank from the MX5?

Thanks for all the replies!

I will have to take the fuel tank out to slice the body in half to get it in the scrap mans van! Its raining quite heavily this morning so progress might be hampered - was hoping to get a fair bit done today so we shall see!

Should be on the road for April then :)

Hahaha Im getting married in october so would like the bulk of it done by then!

The donor shell has been cut up and has been taken away. The plastics have been mostly recycled so now I need to get on with the refurbishment of the remaining parts. Im in London this weekend so next week I will hopefully start a blog detailing the refurb and then carrying it on to the actual build at the end of the month.

Thanks

A big plus one to that - and as an additional bonus you can then get away with this:
