Could one of you guys please have a guess at how much my car weighs it's a widebody with a Cosworth turbo engine in it,the car has an areo screen and no fancy bits like a heater and was built in 1997.A friend of mine has told me the engine on its own weighs 400kg that cannot be right can it.

Many Thanks.

Chris.

Even without the addition of 'no fancy bits' its a bit of a "How long is a piece of string" question. For instance, even the difference between wheel/tyre weights can have a dramatic influence. But IMHO your car would probably be around the 575-625kg mark. It is just a guess though..... ;)

Chris, do you have any closer pics of the vent on the side of your bonnet?

I am thinking of putting on in the same place (Induction/turbo).

I'd reckon on between 600 and 650kg's..................

My narrow atmo cossie (with screen, but no other weather or heating stuff) weighs in at 580kg's. With the extra metal of the turbo, plus intercooler/extra plumbing/general turbo engine ancilliaries, that'll tip it over 600. A wide chassis is quite a bit heavier than a narrow chassis (by as much as 20kg's, so I've heard), plus the extra fibreglass in the bodywork itself, minus the weight of the screen and wipers..........so actually I'd say 620-650kg's............

Anyone want to run a book?

Complete guess, I would say 650kg

Presumably you've got a T5 box they weigh a bit?

400kg engine! only if you've got a BIG block chevvy with supercharger.

cheers

My SEiW 2.0L Zetec with screen etc & 15" wheels (16kg each with tyres :0  :( ) weighs 620kg.

I recon yours will be more than this as the cossie engine is heavier than a Zetec then you have got the turbo on top i recon 641.75kg (whens the draw & what are the prizes :D )

Thanks for the replys,i'm pleased that my mate was wrong about the weight, thought he would be as that would have made my engine weigh as much as a bike engined Westie :D

Paul i don't have any pic's of the vents, but what i did is use some of that mesh that you get from tuning shops(the stuff they stick all over Nova's :D )and get a mate who's good with a Dremal(spelling) it really works you can feel the heat coming from them when driving which can be nice on a cold day, looks ok to :p

*wanders off to get is hack saw and drill bitz*

New thread soon - anyone got a spare bonnet/fingers/garage ;)

Is it straight forward to chop holes in the bonnet?

:0 …..I used stainless steel mesh which I polished and then glassed in to keep it nice and snug. Looks good and adds at least another 40bhp to the engine.

We had our XTR2 on the corner scales a few weeks ago whilst doing the rideheight, geometry and bumpsteer.

Amazingly our car weighs 480kg wet - including fuel and big dry sump tank.  We didn't try too hard either to get that weight (very light billet 15" wheels, lightened disks, lightweight wheel studs, Nitron NTR dampers, Single STACK triagnle instruments and loom, ditched the crappy electric reverse too).  It even has all the 'road legal' stuff too.

Wait until the spring when the spaceframe has a repanel with Carbon fibre !!!

How does that compare to a megabusa ???
