WestyNottm Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 I learned to drive in a mk2 Escort back in the early 80's. Can't remember doing that in it though! Quote

NVP66S Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Not showing off or doing anything silly. Just excellent skill and going really fast. My hat's off to him. Quote
mikef Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Stunning . I would be interested to know what the difference in time would be over the same stage in a modern WRC 4 wheel drive car. Would it be a factor of seconds or minutes? Quote
Matta Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Brilliant video. I always remember Ari Vatanen in the Rothmans escorts. Have a trawl on Youtube, as there are some fantastic clips of him on the Manx for example - going over a cattle grid with walls on either side flat out and sideways was incredible - you just hear the navigator pause reading the pacenotes and say "dear god!" before continuing. My mate and I rallied a Mk2 back in the early 80's - although nothing as spectacular as this! Matt Quote
s2rrr Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Roger Clark master of the escort. Clocaenog forest for numerous RAC rallys, webers screaming from miles away utter bliss. Bob Quote

clansman Posted January 15, 2014 Author Posted January 15, 2014 (edited) Once went to watch the tarmac rally on the IOM the skill these guys have is amazing .....on one stage we stood at the same spot as it was being run twice and Tony Pond in the HSR Chevette braked leaving two black lines on the first run and nailed exactly the same black lines on the second. I remember looking at them after the stage finished and there was no difference hardly at all . ........Those were the days The video above is the very stage I was talking about .......at 3:20 into the video Like the navigators comment before the cattle grid...............................bit of a **** clenching moment !!!
