David A-B Posted October 20, 2003 Posted October 20, 2003 Hi, I'm brand new to the board and to Westfield ownership having recently acquired a Megablade. I'm entered in a sprint on Saturday @ Lydden and have also pre-registered for the 2004 Speed Series. I've done 1 sprint before (in my old Elise) and, despite worrying beforehand, the car sailed through scrutineering. I've no reason to think the 'Blade will have a problem at scrutineering as it is pretty much brand new but I have noticed it doesn't appear to have a second throttle return spring as per the Blue Book. The Elise had one on the throttle pedal as standard. If the scrut is as 'thorough' as last time, all he'll do is pull at the harness and try to waggle the seat and give me the sticker but for peace of mind I wondered if anyone has a good source for the spring so I can get one for future use. BTW There's a couple of other Westies competing on Saturday. Anyone on here? David A-B Quote
peterg Posted October 20, 2003 Posted October 20, 2003 Bike-engined cars don't normally fall foul of the 2nd return spring rule as most scrutineers know that the standard linkage has more than one anyway (most bikes I've seen have a return spring on each carb so mine has 4! ) Quote
Fast Westie Posted October 21, 2003 Posted October 21, 2003 I'll be there for the racing in the afternoon (car 35). I do not think you will have a problem with the scrutineers as they are generally quite accomodating. Quote
DickieB Posted October 21, 2003 Posted October 21, 2003 They are extremely stringent on noise at Lydden. Quote
David A-B Posted October 22, 2003 Author Posted October 22, 2003 Thanks for the replies guys. To be honest I haven't even had chance to check out the carbs but I remember the linkage looked seriously complicated. Fast Westie - I'll look out for you in the races if I can stay for the afternoon. I may have to disappear 'though as when I got rid of the Lotus, my wife thought that meant I wouldn't be competing again this season. I think she had other plans for our Saturday. When I say 'competing' I'm being a bit optimistic as I got placed in Class E12 due to my List 1B tyres. The only other guy in class has a Turbo 6R4 which someone told me has 700hp Dickie B - You're right about the noise regs at Lydden. Not had mine tested yet (only had it a week) but it doesn't *seem* too loud compared to some of the stuff they had at Lydden last time David A-B Quote
windy Posted October 23, 2003 Posted October 23, 2003 The only other guy in class has a Turbo 6R4 which someone told me has 700hp That'll be Rick Lea then. He is one of the richest men around & has one of every type of group B rally car. He usually turns up in a Vanquish to drive his Metro. Windy Quote
ian crocker Posted October 23, 2003 Posted October 23, 2003 And whoever told you 700HP is wrong. It's 730 Quote
David A-B Posted October 24, 2003 Author Posted October 24, 2003 All this might explain why they're running me after rather than before him (he'd probably have caught me after about two bends) I'll settle for beating my time in Elise. Should be easy if I can learn to get off the line without stalling Quote
