Anyone ever done one? In years to come I know I'm going to want power so do I just install a turbo on my pinto or re-engine? I know turbos aren't loved on here but i'm just thinking cost effective on a car that does 3000 miles a year max and havr an idea of how much to save up!!

if you have a pinto then it would be easier to fit a cosworth motor complete (same bottom end ISH) but big turbo motors imho dont work in 7 type cars and has been proven over the years

probably better spending money on a engine swap or getting more power from your pinto ,either way turbo'ing your pinto or fitting a cosworth mtor or engine swap are not going to be cheap at all ,your talking thousands

the other option is sell on your car and buy a more suitable car

You can also go NatAsp Cosworth and get the same or more power as the standard Cossie turbo set-up, and without the lag.

Not sure how much the Turbo YBs go for, but you're looking serious money for NatAsp (last one I know of went for closer to £10k than 5).

I'm seriously considering my engine in order to go Duratec + supercharger: only thing holding me back is the concern that it won't have as nice a character as the YB on carbs.

Duratec has the exhaust on the same side as the YB (and I assume Pinto) so less chance of having extra holes left in bodywork.

I was always told that the one place where the pinto really lacks is the breathing- with some decent head work, and the right cam, Im sure 160+ hp is realistic? there are normally a few worked pintos flying around from the escort lads, maybe you can pick up one- that would probably be the cheapest route-

JeffC has been looking for a Pinto for his Escort and maybe able to help pointing you in the right direction.

Pintos are good for 200, plenty of bits a builders around. Hovever a standard duraburp is 150 and a platform to build on

Thanks for the informative replies chaps. My engine was 153hp on a dyno and is well built i'm just thinking long term and what parts to start squirreling away in the new year.

Looking like a Duratec, the car itself is new enough and well built enough to warrant it.
