peterg Posted September 29, 2003 Posted September 29, 2003 I've got crossply slicks on the car at the moment but a possible tweak (budget allowing) for next year would be to go to Avon radial slicks 1) anyone on here using/used them and have comments on their relative performance 2) what suspension changes would be needed? - I'm guessing a touch more negative camber on the front (1-1.5 degrees instead of the 0.25 I'm running) but not sure if anything else needs changing to get them optimised Quote
guy g Posted September 30, 2003 Posted September 30, 2003 Mark and Phil have been using them this year and report improved performance. Getting the geometry right is the key, and may not be as easy as just a bit more negative on the front and a bit on the back (like BMTR suggest). Marks car was almost undriveable to start with apparently - they ended up changing toe (my guess is to parallel or slightly toed in rather than a bit of toe out), caster and camber settings. I would talk to someone who's done it. If you had a proper car you could call Bill Chaplin!! Ian Chard has been running radials I think so you could call DJ. Quote
peterg Posted September 30, 2003 Author Posted September 30, 2003 If you had a proper car you could call Bill Chaplin now now Guy that's not nice ... and there was me telling someone to buy your car at the weekend Thanks for the other comments - I'll ring Del and ask him for advice about setup, I just wondered what others had experienced so far Quote
guy g Posted September 30, 2003 Posted September 30, 2003 Just trying to be helpful Peter - with the customary quip thrown in!! Who were you talking to about the Force - just so I know to send the usual commission to you if they decide to buy it. Quote
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted September 30, 2003 Posted September 30, 2003 Perhaps it was Obi Wan Kanobi John Quote
Blatman Posted September 30, 2003 Posted September 30, 2003 I thought he was dead........well, as dead as Jedi's get, anyway. He's certainly in no condition to drive........maybe it was Luke....... Sorry..... I'll grab my lightsabre on the way to the taxi rank...... Quote
peterg Posted September 30, 2003 Author Posted September 30, 2003 Guy, firstly no offence taken I was talking to Tony Adams at Prescott as he mentioned your car and I know from speaking to others that it's the business though I've not seen it close up myself (too expensive for me sadly, so is Ian Chard's - and my concern is that a carbon tub is expensive to replace given a big 'off' whereas mine can be straightened fairly cheaply which is just as well given my relative inexperience........) Tony wants a bigger more modern car than the Jedi he's got but isn't sure about the 'pointy' styling of Force single seaters (ie with no sidepods) I just said it's better to get a proven/sorted car and your car must be good to get the results it has as you're crap as a driver (see I do quips as well ) Quote
guy g Posted September 30, 2003 Posted September 30, 2003 Tony has been interested for a while - he came to Aintree to look a few weeks ago. Thanks for saying nice things though. Don't understand the pointy style bit - mine has sidepods, undertray and all the other b******s. True about the driving though - all the results are solely down to the car. Just can't understand if it's that easy why I haven't got a queue at the door - after all it's very cheap. Quote
guy g Posted September 30, 2003 Posted September 30, 2003 Don't know what Mr Loudon and Mr Blatman are doing on this thread. This is for grown up people - you know the one's that occupy the top few places on "the list"!! Quote

Last few lists I've loked at have seen me with a couple of class wins, and a 2nd in class on the day, so there. *Stamps foot* *Looks indignant* *Crawls back under stone* Quote
