cast iron
Graham who Jeff bought it off didnt have a garage it lived outside for 10 year. He used it every day, it was his only car. It will be great to see it restored

JeffC
; What plans do you have for the engine? What is the current spec of the engine? I noticed that you said in another thread that youre selling a pinto engine, can I assume that it came from this? If so whats going back in? Millington would be nice well original plan was to pop in a duraburp as I really like the way they make the power, however I have registered for a couple of escort Rs forums and asked the question on how an engine transplant would effect the value once I get it finished the general opinion was it would be financial suicide on an original Mexico so I have bowed to there judgement and am sticking with the boat anchor , It originally had a 1600 pinto and 4 speed box which the previous owner gave me so should someone want to it could be popped back in, at the mo it has a nice 2.0 pinto fitted which was fully rebuilt and has a fast road cam fitted, I will prob sell that engine as I have bought another pinto from our very own Mr Algar and have just bought a big valve head and wild cam to rebuild that engine along with twin webbers and a fancy exhaust manifold onto a stainless exhaust hoping for something around 150/160bhp with plenty of torque , Im not after stupidly big power as even with the 130bhp it has at the moment its lethal, I dont think I have ever spent so much time on opposite lock on any other car I have owned! I really respect these rally boys with 300bhp Millington is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of my price bracket
Speed Freak
come on jeff, weve all seen the cars you've owned in the past you know only a Millington will do (cheaper than a 300hp duratec engine )

Speed Freak
unless Im mistaken mark james is running a Millington isn't he? I know what he paid for it, and although it was a lot of $$$ it wasn't the money you pay for a 300hp duratec. im sure there are millingtons and millingtons tho
JeffC
am i right in thinking a Millington is thick end of £20k !! ? duratec with 280bhp can be built for a third of that
Speed Freak
Im not sure if you need to spend 20k do you??? Obviously we're talking new prices then here- but I did quote 300hp duratec and not 280, this makes a fair amount of difference regarding steel crank etc.... Id be amazed to see a brand new 300hp duratec for under 15k.. But me thinks you will know this better than me jeff . I had the impression millingtons could be had for a lot less than 20k, ie 10k? I was referring to used examples though?
stu999
Apples with apples Tim. How much would you pick up a used big power Durabang for? Still nowhere near Millington money...

Besides which, not all Millingtons are equal. Depends on whether you are talking a Milington head on a Pinto, or the full Milington Diamond whistles and bells jobbie ;-)
JeffC
no idea Tim on the Millington, just remember seeing one advertised at £20k cant recall if was complete though with everything. bloke that built my caterham race car hinted that the bill to convert from k series to 300bhp duraburp was £18k but that was roller barrels , management, dry sump gearbox exhaust the lot. will be sticking with the trusty old boat anchor on this one

Nah, that is the Super Anchor built by Mr James and DirtyDoggRacing!!! Its a tad shy of 300 bhp too...
