Jeff C"s Mk2 Escort Mexico build thread.

I bought an old Escort a few weeks ago , Its a 1977 Escort mexico ,TPY18S was last restored in 1993 and was a show car til around 2002 winning 14 concourse competitions and many awards,it was featured on the front cover of a few Ford magazines, sadly the last 12 years have taken its toll and its far from the concourse car it once was, to be brutally honest I have seen better examples in the scrap yard and  prob worse than the rot is some of the work that has been carried out over the years, the standard is shocking, which is a crying shame as some of the bills for the work carried out have been eye watering!  anyway plan is to cut out all rot and replace with new metal to hopefully get it back to the condition where it once was when it was winning competitions.

rather than uploading loads of pics on here If anyone is interested in following progress of the car I am doing a build thread on facebook on the following link feel free to have a look .

It's a shame that it changed from concourse winner to the picture in your drive. I've had really nice cars, then a mechanic say's it'll be three days work has the car for a few months... Cones back wrecked! Happened with a mini 1275GT and a Robin Hood.

As Norman said, I'll log into the "Joint" Facebook that HM uses.

Excellent work Jeff, I shall enjoy following the progress.

Looking at the photos and the poor condition of the panels it's hard to believe it's been restored in the past and was oncea concourse winner.

thanks Mark, the paintwork is really good or what hasnt been covered in body Shutz is!so  I can see in its day it was prob very nice but as said its the work done over the last 10 years that has crippled the car, there is patches just snotted over the rot, if you look at the front floor pan it has about 4 patches overlapping each other, a complete floor pan is £25 i just cant understand why anyone would do that, the sills have been put over the top of the original rotten ones  but they have left a gap so the sill sits high and  the door wont close without catching the sill which has took the paint off the door and the door has rotted! there is a bill in the file for £900 of welding and that is what he got! as you can see we are just cutting everything out and starting again.

Norman,

Similar issues here...

Jeff, the link didn't work for me. So I tried searching Facebook...

"Escort Mexico" came back with many results, but not what I was looking for!

"Jeff Cooper Escort" came back with a couple of results, but still no joy.

You might need to clear your cookies Norm.

Or eat them, if that doesn't work!

my dad used to rally the escort mk1 and mk2, so ive always loved them- really excited to see what the end outcome is! You mentioned the issues with the bodywork etc; What plans do you have for the engine? What is the current spec of the engine? I noticed that you said in another thread that youre selling a pinto engine, can I assume that it came from this? If so whats going back in? Millington would be nice

That is a hanging offence letting such a glorious car fall into that state !!! From such a gorgeous example to that !!!  My son and I have been looking for a MK 1 or 2 but not in that condition .

JeffC hope you are going to make a build thread with a difference .......if the mods allow it that is !!
