AdamR Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Hello all, I'm after a working 'Girling' tandem master cylinder please, to aid in brake issues diagnosis... Would consider something else providing it has the same fitments for pedal box and brake lines Cheers, Adam
stu999 Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Hate to wet yer chips mate, but master cylinders have a nasty habit of working fine until removed from from a working system. So one that was working, may not once you get it...! What's the issue???
AdamR Posted November 25, 2013 Author Posted November 25, 2013 Hmm, cheers for the heads up on that - maybe a new one is the way forward then... Or whether to 'upgrade' to something while I'm at it. Brakes have a really poor pedal feel, even after removing the master for bench bleed. Noticed the cylinder doesn't start to push fluid immediately when it's actuated and there's rusty crud pouring out the back of it...
Norman Verona Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Adam, strip it and fit new seals. Also give it a good clean inside when it's apart. I've used very fine W&D to clean a rusty bore before now. (I know, I Know, he was still a bore after having a stick with wet and dry shoved up his jacksie)
AdamR Posted November 25, 2013 Author Posted November 25, 2013 Also contemplated that. Hunting down seals is proving slightly tricky at the moment, but maybe someone like PastParts will have them available... Thanks!
Norman Verona Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 There's a place at Chelmsford who have all the brake parts you'll need. I'll have a search, back in a minute.
Norman Verona Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Sorry, not Chelmsford but Chelford in Cheshire. I'm still searching.
Norman Verona Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Here you go, it's easy when you spell it correctly Classic Automotive, Unit A, Alderley Road, Chelford, Cheshire, SK11 9AP Tel 01625 860910 Email sales@classicbrakes.co.uk Web site www.classicbrakes.co.uk Hope that helps.
stu999 Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 And if it helps, I'm sure I've read on here that the MC is originally off a Morgan...
FILFAN Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 i upgraded the origional m/s to the ap one. was one of the best upgrades i have done.
AdamR Posted November 25, 2013 Author Posted November 25, 2013 Cheers guys - been on the phone to PastParts so missed the last few replies The woman I spoke with wasn't really sure if the kit they are going to send me is right (even though I offered to check / measure anything they wanted) which was a bit odd, but we'll see what turns up! The main thing she wanted to know was the colour of the tag around the body, but mine doesn't have one... kit was about £20odd + VAT. Yeah, appears it's the same as Caterham and a Morgan 4/4 (IIRC). There's a good bit of info on the forum actually from various topics over the years! I contemplated that Phil but it's a bit much cash at the mo... maybe in future! Thanks again everyone - I'll update thread for completeness once I've had my hands dirty.
