I need to pick the brains of you guys who have a dog box fitted in there car.

It appears my twin plate 7.25" clutch is allowing me to change gear quicker than the Quaife Pro box can cope with.

So I am now looking at 5 speed dog boxes to help solve the problem.   :D

Does anyone know the differences between the boxes offered by either Tran-x or Quaife and if anything what I need to look out for?

If any of you are after a fully rebuilt (today) Quaife Type 9 PRO box (2.04 1st gear)  drop me a pm.

cheers

Fitted a dog box earlier this year . It's very good and extremely quick if a little agricultural. You cannot catch it out with a quick change.

I am interested in your synchro box if you change.

slower gearchanges might save your box and your wallet ;)  :p

says the man with the gearbox I want   :p

I refuse to add more pig-iron to my car, so the flywheel is staying.  The gearbox has to go

do us a favour and bring you box up this weekend, it would be really useful for Euro and the Spa trip   ;)

A##e! Just been given a price on the sequential box, I am finding it hard trying to justify not going for it.   :(

Why is the sequential box priced so near a manual dog box... only problem is there aren't any available until the end of september unless anyone knows where there is one for sale?

what about a six speed seq. dog box ?

not cheap, but fun :t-up:

cost is the problem, its probably going to be the sequential 5 speed with 5th as overdrive. seems rude not to

I just need westy to lend me his 4 -speed dog box for spa and its problem solved!

There a definite flaw in your plan I just cant quite put my finger on it...saying that Im pretty busy at the moment and I do have some jobs that need doing on car/garage that might make up for it........

alot cheaper than a wedding, but danielle hasnt come around to that way of thinking.

I mean, can you see a problem in asking for car parts as a wedding present? She starts shouting as soon as I mention it  :0

She starts shouting as soon as I mention it

They all do that :(

I tried to profit from SWMBO giving up smoking by trying to get a new gearbox for my car - I was charging 250 quid every time she smoked a cigarette after an agreed cut-off date but she suddenly discovered some will power and managed to give up after 2 1/2 cigarettes   :arse:  :(

I'd be interested in what you end up with so keep me posted as to which box you go for and why.

Cheers

Quaife sourced through SPC.

This H pattern took some getting used to (seq. may be different) now I like it a lot.

Are Tran X doing a dog box at the moment ? and what ratios do they have ?

Mine is a 4 sp and the price was very good.

Mark,

Have you looked at alternatives to Quaife? Dave Edmunds who posts on Blatchat runs a very light sequential box in his R700 Caterham. I saw his car at Brighton for the speed trials last year and it looked very neat, compact & lightweight. I think he said it was approaching half the weight of the quaife equivalent. Not sure about reliability, availability or cost though.
