samcooke Posted December 7, 2002 Posted December 7, 2002 I used to be up on all this games console malarky but things move so fast nowadays, wouldn't you say? Which is bestest for living out my racing driver fantasies? bearing in mind I'm more of a geoff crammonds grand prix man than a gran turismo man. Quote
Thor, God of Thunder Posted December 7, 2002 Posted December 7, 2002 It's a no-brainer, a decent PC wins every time all the time. Quote
mogwi Posted December 7, 2002 Posted December 7, 2002 I've a got a Sidewinder Forcefeedback wheel with peddles original software/packaging (USB) for PC. I know this isn't the place to advertise but it's sitting here doing nothing, I was thinking of chopping it in for an X-Box, (maybe second place to the PS2, but you don't have buy all the extra stuff to make more usable) make me an offer. It's great fun especially when you hit a tree ! Quote
Mark Stanton Posted December 7, 2002 Posted December 7, 2002 Perhaps the Q should be asked of Phil Dean of Lincoln (he of Faking It infamy) Quote
westy Posted December 7, 2002 Posted December 7, 2002 While consuming multiple of glasses wine last night I had the pleasure of watching Phil Dean's efforts to become tw@t of the year and I must say he has my vote. Im not sure during the vetting process that the programme panel interviewed this prize fist magnet and thought to themselves: 'It may cost us x amount of large ones to put this complete idiot on prime time tv, but, to be honest if he gets a least one brick through his window or his preferably face then its probably worth it'. I would of given somebody elses right arm for an opportunity like that. After all he could of lived up the media hype while it lasted and it could of paved the way for guest apperances on motorsport related TV and then who knows. May he spend the rest of life asking questions to himself of 'what if I.....' oops sorry hijacked the thread Quote
JonnyBoy Posted December 7, 2002 Posted December 7, 2002 it has to be said that my PC packs one #### of a punch when it comes to the latest generation of games. In fact i have spent many an hour on the beaches helping my fellow americans break down the german front line, i have been a particularly sexy brunette from the 60's that outdoes Lara Croft for shaggability by at least 100%, i have been an elite commando, strategically negotiating all that some foreign malitia have to throw at me. All of this with an audio-visual experience to die for....... however..... My mates can't come along for the ride! playing on my home LAN is all well and good, but what kind of bonding is it when you are drinking beer on your own, with your mate doing the same a few doors away! The console may lack some of the performance of the latest PC's but what it does lack, it makes up for with playability, and togetherness! You cant beat a few bevvies with a PS2 playing fifa or burnout 1or2 with your mates!! Quote

ricdiggle Posted December 7, 2002 Posted December 7, 2002 P.C.s are great as long as you have the time and money to keep it in tip top codition. I find them to be a pain in the A*** for games and consider myself quite computer literate. I had a Gamecube for about a week before I flogged it. It was OK but not really much better than my old N64. Most of the games I had were just the same as on the old console and Mario was very disappointing to say the least. Bought an X-Box last week - it came with Sega GT (Simialar to Grand Tourismo). I also have Moto GP which is a motorbike racing sim and frankly, it looks like you're watching TV. The best game however is Splinter Cell. I hate this type of game normally but have found it impossible to put down. PS2 is well supported with some excellent games but as with the original it is now suffering from a huge glut of crappy software. There are so many games for it that it's tought to filter out all the rubbish ones when you're in the shop. The PS2 is also looking a bit pricey too when compared to the others. I'm sure January will see that change though. Anyway, I'd buy an X-Box with Splinter Cell if I were you. Richard Quote

I hate this type of game normally but have found it impossible to put down. Just laid my hands on an XBox as well. Sega GT is not bad, but it's Splinter Cell that's grabbed me, shaken me around and spat me out thinking "Wow!". Can't recommend it enough. I've got Hitman 2 as well, but since Splinter Cell came along, I've not even broken the seal on it yet! The Xbox with Splinter Cell is certainly the way to go. Also, your broardband internet (if you have it) plugs straigh into the back and if you've got a house LAN it can plug straight in there too for mulit-box action. Not bad, especially at the price. Jeremy Clarkperson Posted December 11, 2002 Posted December 11, 2002 ......show me a consol that plays Deus Ex and I’ll buy the bl**** thing. ‘Till then, it’s a PC and nothing but a PC Quote
ricdiggle Posted December 11, 2002 Posted December 11, 2002 Yeah, Splinter Cell, is possibly the best game I've played. It is incredible and very time consuming. I'm finding it very hard to stop myself looking for a walkthrough on the internet. It's not that it's overly hard, it's just so big and you have to be perfect to get passed the levels. Brilliant game. Buy an X-Box and this and you'll be happy right into the new year. No other game has been near mine since I got Splinter Cell. Richard. Quote
stu999 Posted December 11, 2002 Posted December 11, 2002 Better still, buy yourself an X-box IN the new year, and save yourself enough money to buy another game. Probably. Quote
Jon Murray Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 ......show me a consol that plays Deus Ex and I’ll buy the bl**** thing. ‘Till then, it’s a PC and nothing but a PC Better buy yourself a PS2 then Jezza! See Here for Deus Ex on the PS2 : Link Quote
Jeremy Clarkperson Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 Better buy yourself a PS2 then Jezza! See Here for Deus Ex on the PS2 : Link …..as I was saying, PS2, bl**** great machine, can’t recommend it enough. Better than sex, food, Robot Wars, Scrapheap challenge and dressing up as The Butter Queen. Now, if only they had a decent version of Boulder Dash…… Quote
