msisleman Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Hi, I'm currently converting a SEIW Megablade sprint car into an IVA compliant road car, and I need a steering column and steering wheel that will pass IVA, as I understand my Westfield Quick Release boss and exposed spoke wheel are not IVA compliant? I also need a fuel tank to fit SEIW to replace the 1 gallon Ali Fab one I currently have. With sender would be a bonus. Thanks, Craig.
msisleman Posted October 8, 2013 Author Posted October 8, 2013 To clarify, (i think) I need a column that is both collapsible and locking, as mine is neither.
Rory's Dad Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 You'll find an Allegro upper column is still current (!). It is not in a straight line with the Escort steering rack and the interconnecting shaft. That's what makes it 'collapsible'. The Westfield SVA wheel has a foam plastic cover and this and the column parts described above will get you through SVA. Good luck! Rory's Dad
Chestfield Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 I have a fuel tank with sender and all the fixing parts off my SEiW - could offer it to you shipped price I'll send you some pics. Charlie Ps I'm fairly new to forums so bear with me
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Do they not all need to be three piece columns now to satisfy IVA? (Particularly happy to be wrong on that though, as always much preferred the feel withstand he two piece column). Otherwise, as Martin said, the upper column used to be at a slight angle away from being parallel to the centre line of the car. Plus the steering wheel had a collapsable boss.

If you have any questions or need some help with anything just ask and we'll try to help
msisleman Posted October 8, 2013 Author Posted October 8, 2013 Thanks a lot for info guys, and thanks Pete and Mark for the warm welcome, looking forward to getting my Westie on the road and attending some meets. I had a quick look for an intro section for newbies, but couldn't see one? Anyway, a picture tells a thousand words, here's my current setup (couldn't for the life of me directly link the image from dropbox!!?!): https://www.dropbox.com/s/r4c06l23qez33b1/2013-10-08%2018.16.46.jpg https://www.dropbox.com/s/ke1pc5jvouszto0/2013-10-08%2018.16.52.jpg https://www.dropbox.com/s/iv65tupe8m8933t/2013-10-08%2018.18.14.jpg Craig.
Mark (smokey mow) Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Looking at the pics an allegro top column should be a straight swap for your current one and will then give you the steering lock you need. It's probably worth giving Mark Walker (tech support) at Westfield a quick call just to confirm the situation regarding the elegability of 2piece columns for IVA. As well as the upper column you'll then need a collapsible steering boss and a suitably padded wheel. Wheel's and bosses tend to come up on the forum for sale quite frequently as people upgrade so you may get lucky and bag a bargain second hand
msisleman Posted October 8, 2013 Author Posted October 8, 2013 Great, that clears that up, thanks Mark. So if anyone has an allegro column and steering lock, and a standard padded Westfield wheel then get in touch! No way am I buying new from Westfield just to pass IVA!
msisleman Posted October 9, 2013 Author Posted October 9, 2013 Anyone any idea if a Mini column could work?! Going to really struggle to find an Allegro column, and I'm resistant to buying a brand new column from Westfield for £132.

Going to really struggle to find an Allegro column, and I'm resistant to buying a brand new column from Westfield for £132.IIRC a mini column mounts the same but is quite a bit shorter than the allegro one. The maestro is longer than mini but I think still 3-4" too short. If you're handy with a welder and can make a couple of different column mounting tabs to go on the dash hoop then you could always fit something completely different. My car for example uses an MX5 column. Edit: just looked and the mini steering column actually mounts differently at the top compared to allegro.
msisleman Posted October 11, 2013 Author Posted October 11, 2013 Bump, standard SEIW tank still needed (or any reasonable quality alloy 6 or 7 gallon tank that suits SEIW). And westie padded wheel and Allegro column please.
msisleman Posted October 16, 2013 Author Posted October 16, 2013 Bump..... now got a steering column, but still need a padded Westfield steering wheel and a fuel tank.
