Wile E. Coyote
Very sad news indeed. There may be lessons to be learned, we'll have to see. I do have a feeling though, that legislation may come whether required or not. I don't know what they have onsite at most trackdays but, given some of the marshalls' posts are unmanned, it wouldn't surprise me if there was relatively limited medical cover at most. That isn't to say the outcome would necessarily have been less tragic if there was more but, if you look to the equestrian world, it's getting harder to get insurance to operate certain events unless you have a doctor with additional specialist training (regular paramedics no longer deemed sufficient) and a good assortment of kit onsite. I'd be surprised if there was legislation as a result, but that doesn't necessarily mean things won't change for organisers and/or participants... JeffC
It is indeed very sad and really hits home when its someone you know quite well, Mick had a unit just down the road from me, he has left a wife and kids, When I had my motorbikes I went out Riding with Mick quite often, he was a fast but good rider and far more capable than I ever was and that was back in 2003 when I sold my bike (after I had some near misses) and he has kept riding since then and went on to do a lot of trackdays so I can only imagine he would be very good on a bike but the worst thing is the accident was unavoidable, two riders came off in front of him and he had no where to go, he was killed outright.
