Norman Verona
May have been, but I think it was Katayama. So does Cedric Katayama sound good. I think the first Fairlady was about 1958 and looked like a 50s American car and sold well in the USA. The 240Z, 260Z and 280Z was the biggest selling sports car in the world. This accolade may now belong to the MX5. We were the 9th Datsun dealer in the UK. The Cherry at that time was a rear wheel drive car based on the Austin A30. Most cars were named for the US market. The Datsun (and later Nissan) 1/2 ton pickup was based on the Austin A55 van.
Norman Verona
Jeff, I remember the "custom" cars well. Didn't like them then and don't like them now. As for Velvet. I was wearing Velvet suits before we got married in 1968. Never had a kipper tie but knitted ties were great.
