WestyNottm Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 Just read about this 52 year-old Triumph Herald on the BBC web site. The expected auction price of £12,000 - £15,000 sounds reasonable to me. I bet it goes for a lot more. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-norfolk-24204080 Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 My Dad bought a new Herald 1200 in 1962 (registration 1815 MG) and it cost about £700. That, plussed up for inflation, is about £13,000 today. He died in 1987 still owning the car and I sold it complete with number plate but regretted not getting it transferred off. Having just lost a parent and the car being in immediate need of an MoT which would have cost a good deal more than the certificate, led me to make the wrong decision. At that time a plate transfer could only be made from a car with a current certificate. The car, whilst remarkable for its age, was well past its best, and dreadful to drive by even the standards of 1987. I wouldn't buy this 1961 example and I regard such vehicles as being like thatched cottages - nice to see across the road but a nightmare to own! Quote
Norman Verona Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 For what it's worth I didn't think much of them when they were new. They're not at the top of any serious collectors list today. Quote

Norman Verona Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 I always thought it was like drive a lump of jelly. The scuttle shake was unbelievable. Quote
iain m Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 My mother bought a new estate, my concern ( unlike a Westie ) was the huge amount of steering lock, I swear if you put it on full lock with too many revs the front tyres would come off the rims. They were the ultimate rust bucket after 5 years, somewhere in between the Vauxhall Cresta and the Lancia Beta. Quote
