Captain Colonial Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 Of course, we're all shocked and saddened by the terrorist attack at the shopping centre in Nairobi, Kenya that has left scores dead and still isn't completely finished. But you think to yourself, well, that's thousands of miles away, it doesn't affect us, thankfully. Just found out this morning on the news that two of the victims shot dead, a woman and her eight-year-old daughter, were people I'd met a couple of years ago and related (sister and granddaughter) to our neighbour two doors down from us. Quite stunned by the news. Didn't know them well at all, but have known the neighbour family for more than 20 years. Will go around and offer our condolences later of course, but difficult to know what to say. Small world sometimes...scarily small. Quote

Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 Yep, small world indeed, the soldier murdered in London recently, Lee Rigby, was the cousin of our engineer. Somehow things always seem so distant when reported on TV. Quote
alexander72 Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 its a tragedy that this terror organisation can only attack women, children and unarmed civilians in a shopping centre..... I will leave my opinions at that but it, at least, reminds us of what cowardly, lilly livered, spineless scumbags they are murdering the innocent in the name of religious interest and trying to prevent foriegn intervention in Somalia - it's weird how they dont take their armed Jihad to a foe that is also armed. Rant Over and my heart goes out to all the victims relatives and friends Quote
Captain Colonial Posted September 24, 2013 Author Posted September 24, 2013 Working from home today, doorbell going bonkers, all the flaming radio and TV stations wanting comments from the neighbours, and all turned politely away with a "we're supporting them quietly and privately at this very sad time". I've got a good deal of media experience, so know how to handle them, but just shows what they're like - who the snark cares what the neighbours think? Going to be a long day, methinks. Just shows why you should have an ex-directory landline number, as that's how the media found them - you never expect it to be you thrust into the media glare. Quote
alexander72 Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 Scott, please give the media my opinion..... Quote
