If not a badge snob I guess you'd also need to consider Toyota Kia Hyundai etc. not sure if still the case but vw group warranty only 3 years 60k

Bought an Ex demo Superb L&K 2.0 TFS Estate in Feb this year after having the same discussion on this forum.  6months old, <5k mileage all for £22k.  Was a no-brainer compared to the Audi A6 Avant I was considering.  The build quality is as good as, possibly better so no regrets at all, it is a fantastic car.  200bhp and every gadget you can imagine plus luggage space and rear legroom that have their own time zone.  Buy with confidence, Sir!

I've had a fabia, two octavias and a yeti (norm helped out on the yeti purchase). Only problem I had was a faulty fuel pressure sensor, the same problem affected golf gti. Great cars. I'd still have one if it wasn't for the fact I knackered my back, and the only car I find comfortable now is a Volvo. :(

We've got two Octavia estates. A 4x4 TDi and a VRs TDi, also had a fabia VRs. Keep thinking I'll have something different, but then end up coming back to them as they are a reasonable car for a reasonable price. The 4x4 has done 125,000 hard miles up and down farm tracks and muddy lanes/fields and its still going strong.

The 2.0 TDi doesn't like negative G so if you are pressing on and go over a hump or crest on the road it can stutter a bit, something to do with how they mounted the fuel pump in the Octavia.

I've not noticed this with mine, and I've done plenty of lumpy humpy roads at speed!

I started with Fabia VRS - larger air intake/mapped to 180/heavy duty clutch/disks and Audi TT calipers. Had it for almost 8 reliable years of hard driving.

Moved to the Octavia TD VRS two years ago.

Both excellent cars.

Anyone want to buy a Bluefin suitable for the common rail VRS engine?

Takes it up to 200bhp   ;)

If you look into the history a bit you will see that for many years whilst in the none mainstream as a manufacturer Skoda used to run the old "RAC" rally and finished most years in their particular class. I think standard road cars.. Now they are with the big boys they seem to have excellent reputations for quality, reliability etc. They are VWs in most areas and are substantially cheaper or used to be. Decent motors I reckon.
