Just traded the Cliosport 197 daily drive in for a GT86. Still have the SEIW (without question). Would be interested to know if any WSCC club members have made a purchase recently or would be interested to know your thoughts.

Having used to run a G7 Celica I have been highly tempted by the GT86, however for me as std there is not enough power. I would end up going the upgraditis route and costing me a bomb. Gorgeous look but little in the way of guts, whatever happened to Toyota since the mighty GT4's they just went soft!

Mmm, used to have a T180 series GT and after that, (briefly) a Carlos Sainz GT4 version many moons ago, keep being tempted by the idea of one of these, but have the same worry. :d

Don't make yourself unhappy - do your market research before, not after, you get your chequebook out.

The whole point about the gt86 is that its power is relatively modest, but that it has been set up to make the most of what it has and be fun with that power. This has enabled Toyota to create a car that is more enjoyable than many significantly more powerful cars.

True but I do think it really needed more, not  a power monster but something in the region of 250bhp woulda been better, Such a good looking car with an 8.0 0-60 is not gonna cut it. Can see it going the way of the G7 Celica and a group of owners going turbo or SC to get the kick in the pants such a car should give.  In today's world of safety features and additional weight it needs that extra power.

This is spot on. As legislation creeps ever more into our lives, the threat of automatic speed limited cars being forced on us by the EU, there is a movement for cars where you can use all the power. Many people say the best Caterham to drive is one with small power as you have to drive it rather than just stick your foot down. The GT86 is the car that people drive and feel involved even at low speed. As the engine is basically a Subaru boxer tuning will not be in short supply

Litchfield do a 25bhp upgrade, and are working on a supercharger 280bhp upgrade...

As Ben says, the car has been developed to enjoy driving, hence the fuel efficient, low grip tyres as standard.

interesting topic - i like the GT86 but it doesnt have a high enough towing capacity for the girls horses....

The whole idea of the GT86 was to build a finely balanced car with modest power, good handling, so all the power can be used . The added bonus is it will be an efficient and relatively cheap car to run as a daily driver.     Yet to see one on a trackday though.

ive yet to see one towing a horse box as well sooty - I have just had a Jaguar XF 3.0d sport premium for the day with the auto box......  serious bit of kit with so much torque - I was very impressed.....

I've yet to see any at all, other than at the dealers. Though I do know of a few disappointed after test drives.

Seen a few on the road around here although the the people driving them don't seem to be the sporty driving types, in fact I don't recall seeing a single male driver yet  :suspect:

I have a BMW for towing the SEIW when I take it for a play.

I realise the power might be an issue but even the Clio can get you into license loosing territory in no time at all. I'm hoping to have a bit of fun without it getting silly.

I'm also hoping that it might save me a bit of cash. The Clio only runs on Super and I struggle to get 31MPG.

It's amazing how many people miss the point of this car.

I would simply change the Clio 197 to a Clio Cup 200, it's a lot more like the older Clio Cups 172 & 182, just about one of finest front drivers i've driven.
