thegunplumber Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Hi all having fitted a new ECU which has a cut off to protect the engine if oil pressure drops below a set limit (which it did at curborough this weekend) after checking oil level i downloaded and checked the data from the ECU and was horrified to find that with the combination of corner and acceleration the pressure dropped as low as 16psi.With this in mind i need to sort out fast.Have any of you fitted an Accusump if so what were the results also can it supply oil fast enough to be worth while on track.I realise that dry sump would be the way forward but costs are huge and much more time consuming to fit. Any input would be appreciated many thanks martin. Quote
JeffC Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 looking at your profile im guessing you are running a duratec engine? if so the raceline wet sump works perfect. I run on slicks and see no surge at all and I have run with this on a concrete runway on a hot day where the grip was staggering, one point i would say is that oil level is critical, if it gets low i have seen dips and if overfilled the oil overheats. thegunplumber Posted August 26, 2013 Author Posted August 26, 2013 hi yes it is a duratec it has the raceline sump running on miller oil.checked levels which were spot on.i never noticed any drop on pressure when i just used to look at guage its just since i have had the ability to download data from ecu,so i rekon most of us are running about blisfully unaware of the problem as it doesnt show up. Terry Everall Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Just over 1 bar pressure may be ok in extreme situations for a short period? Quote
davidgh Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Martin In my experience, with an Accusump you'll still worry -- although it's definitely a worthwhile band-aid, you'll probably end up selling it again to go dry sump. HTH Quote
Delboy Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Your car is a serious bit of kit Martin! High RPM and low oil pressure do not mix! There is no real alternative to a dry sump! Del Quote
Terry Everall Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 I think Del is right....... for peace of mind go dry sump Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Dry sump every time if there are oiling issues. It's the only SURE way. Plus with a good DS installation on a highly tuned engine, it can potentially improve the engines efficiency a small amount too. And lets face it, with highly tuned engines, it's all those small final improvements that add up. Quote
alexander72 Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Martin, your car is a cracker mate, iron out the issues you had PM on saturday and you will be up there - Quote
JeffC Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Where abouts do u run the level on the dipstick ? I know plenty of track cars on raceline sump on slicks that have run for years without issues , my motor is 280 spec and is revving to close to 9k to make its power and I'm confident its fine as was troy when he built it with the wet sump and he knows I planned to track it.I run a big led warning light connected to pressure switch straight off one of the galleries and I'm yet to see it flicker but as said from experience I run higher on the dipstick, my first motor was built by ammo and recomended the higher mark . thegunplumber Posted August 26, 2013 Author Posted August 26, 2013 thanks for all the advise guys, looks like ill have to save the pennys and go dry sump over winter Quote
XTR2Turbo Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 drain the oil and see how much comes out. The fill with the amount that Raceline recommend and mark the dip stick Quote
