SteveD Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 i am after a wide sei chassis new if possible but used will do if in good condition i have a customer who has damaged his westfield ,basically it needs a front end ,which i can do but....... as most westfields his started out as a road car but has developed into a sprint /hillclimb car and he no longer uses it on the road ,so he asked me to get a new chassis from westfield and swap all his parts onto it so he can keep his old chassis and have me repair it so he can build it into a road car over a period of time ,but westfield will not supply just a chassis they will only supply me a starter kit which he does not want or need and does not want the extra expense ,i can get a replacment chassis but he wants to keep his, so can anyone help him out cheers steve
XTR2Turbo Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Am I missing something ? Won't he eventually need bodywork also to build the new road car on his repaired chassis if his existing bodywork goes on the race car?
SteveD Posted August 21, 2013 Author Posted August 21, 2013 Am I missing something ? Won't he eventually need bodywork also to build the new road car on his repaired chassis if his existing bodywork goes on the race car? yes but i have most parts inc bodywork removed from other cars over the years ,he is trying to keep costs down and do it over time
XTR2Turbo Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Ah ok understood There might be someone out there looking for new body to spruce theirs up or to convert from std to fw that would take it off your hands if you could facilitate a joint order Would work out a lot cheaper than buying individually

s2rrr Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Bit odd Westfields not being able to supply a chassis, do they have a reason other than commercial. Seems strange. Guess they have there reasons though. Bob
SteveD Posted August 22, 2013 Author Posted August 22, 2013 i think its a buisness thing bobster so they up sales ,but not everyone wants a starter kit and end up with a large amount of un needed parts ,i have nothing against westfield and the parts guys are fantastic but imho there are some strange desisions made at the top , i personally would rather have a chassis sale than not
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Since the introduction of the Sport Turbo with its various word wide approvals, there seem to be a number of "types" of sale that the factory will no longer do; so far, I've only seen it where it relates to parts of a chassis, (things like wishbone eyelets, bushes, stuff like that). But perhaps they've extended the scope right up to the full chassis?
Norman Verona Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Isn't there something about a V5c that goes with a chassis. They cannot sell you a replacement chassis without the original being destroyed or returned. Or is this intended as a new car? Maybe the answer is to buy the starter kit and sell all the stuff not needed. Should be plenty folk wanting new body panels.
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 No, as explained earlier, it's not a replacement chassis on the same number - that wouldn't have been an issue. It's just a bare "new" chassis. (Steve has enough spare, cheap bodywork to go with it).
Mark Stanton Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Thats an unfortunate situation and doesn't inspire much confidence in being able to repair accident damge to sprint and race cars at short notice if you now have to buy a starter kit it used to be a common repair to many race cars at one time
Captain Colonial Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Although to a degree, I can understand the logic of it (preventing fraud via duplicate chassis numbers, and making you buy body panels from the factory instead of elsewhere), it would be good if the factory did a chassis with a serial number that clearly showed it was not for road use - something like (pulls numbers out his backside) "123-NOT-ROAD-LEGAL-456" as the serial number for situations like this, to differentiate it from other chassis.
Terry Everall Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 It was very common for the race cars to have a new front end welded on as a standard repair
XTR2Turbo Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 The factory will still repair and I they will sell a replacement chassis where you give them your old one or at least the section with the chassis stamped but as I understand it from what Steve is saying they won't sell a new chassis outright on it's own other than as part of a starter kit.
