Top Speed

Mine has seen 120 and felt like it was still pulling. I think my old BMW 328i would have dropped it at that speed though. That felt rock steady at 145 on the autobahn in 2011.

So 150 at 9000 rpm sounds slow.

still don't know---- mines still not set up properly, as the engines been stripped again :-(

Last time round I did very quickly sprint up to about 130mph in 5th, and still had a gear to go, but that was all I braved, and only for a couple of seconds.

it will get done, and I'll report my findings ;-)

Might be slower in top :( I recall my Capri inj was slower in 5th than Fourth as it needed to be higher up the rev range get get enough umph for its top Speed and changing up to fifth dropped the revs and therefore power output and it would slow down !

@steved

still the same mate. Ive had a lot on the past few weeks so haven't gotten around to putting the engine back in.... the engines been stripped and cleaned since finding metal shavings in the oil from the dry sump pump.... something had been sucked into the pump, which had got trapped and helped to strip the very expensive titan pump :-(  titan have replaced parts, and used what could be used, but the cylinders were scored etc.... pump fixing cost 450quid, labour to get engine stripped cleaned and put back together was 1000euros- and then gaskets, cylinder head studs etc etc etc etc etc

hopefully when the engine goes back in, it might actually run more than 600kms before I have another issue!

I still haven't looked into the handling issues from last year! I can only guess that they are down to a bad bush or due to a bad rosejoint on the front (as Ive replaced the rears). I had back in winter spoken to a specialist in Frankfurt who could sort it out me- but germans don't do things by halves, and when it comes to cost, its the same story..... 500euros for a geo setup

nah mate- mines got approx. 230-240hp, and it pulls very hard to 100mph (8.5seconds) and keeps going past 200kph (127mph), If I had to lay my hand on the line, Id say that even with the windscreen, itll do 140 at least, and without, probably over 150. mind you, Id need a long straight, and really big b0770cks!  nah its not for me- put me on a race track, and sort the setup, and we'll see... but anywhere else, its suicide.

Ive bough a gadget that will adjust the impulses on the speedo, so I can make it more accurate... At the minute Im approx 6% out, so when It says Im doing 100, Im only doing about 94- a bit of tolerance is good, but Id like it closer--- so Ill get that fixed and will tell you exactly whats what... the top speeds Ive quoted so far have been clock speeds. the 0-100 we timed at 105mph to adjust.

I did 150 mph in the SEiGHT 4.6i V8 chasing Barry Ashcroft's 6.6ltr V8 Chevy when we were in the USA and he was pulling away from me!But I will have to say it wasn't a pleasant experience the front end was v light. Un like the TVR Tamora I clock 164mph on the Tom Tom on the autobahn in Erikland and that felt safe

"The Caterham Seven 620 R is powered by a 2.0-liter Ford Duratec engine that develops 311 horsepower and 219 pound-feet of torque, making it the most powerful and torque-filled Seven to date. This is enough oomph to hit 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds with a top speed of about 155 mph." from the press release.

So you need a lot of power to reach 150, the differences in power  req'd fro a few more mph are great; to say reach 160mph  you might need 400+bhp as opposed to the 311bhp,   such is the rate of increase in drag at these speeds for these "bricks"

On gearing...

Remember if you "say" need 250 bhp to reach say 140 mph - IF you are at peak power and so geared that you reach that peak power at 140mph then you might  well do it. A simlar car geared to reach a theoretical 170mph is then unlikley to be putting out that 250bhp peak power now at the lower rpm - hence "changing up" can give a lower top speed however much power you have. With the Capri 2.8 this was indeed the case ( in the change up from 4th to 5th (type9) the revs would drop from something like ~ 900rpm, enough of a power drop for the car to then slow down)

See where you are on this chart ! (results from published "7" cars, power on the "X" axis) -bear in mind the gearing issue, which could move  your result around a bit !

Got rather interesting...

I admit I reached my limit when I did my 120-130mph run. Speedo is a few MPH out at 70 and not really looking much, so can't be accurate. But first time I did it I was doing a good 10mph slower, fitted the diffuser and car felt much more planted (was the reason for high speed runs.). Diffuser does nothing until about 60. But a wheel balance being out would have same effect.

Well Steve, no Del, so I'll admit to 149mph recorded through the finish at Aintree. I have heard of one other car faster than this, come on Boycey where are you......

My car is geared to do 137 at 8,500 if I remember correctly. Gets up to about 130 over the line at Aintree, and still accelerating quite fast. That is with 272 bhp, and aeroscreen, so if you think you are going to go much faster than 140 in a Westfield, I can confirm you'll need an aweful lot of power, and correct gearing.

I think the Hahlin Super 7 blows this out of the water…… looks terrifying from the youtube vids!
