Norman Verona Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Yesterday was a brilliant day. Got our new French plates, had a nice lunch at our favourite Asian restaurant, got the plates, told the insurance company the new numbers. Great. Only little problem was some money that was due into my bank hadn't arrived (we went into the bank on the way home) Well when we got home it turned out that the money was held in limbo because it had come from the wrong bank accout. (I won't go into detail, not relevant other to say that I had set up an account with a nominated bank and it came from a different one), So this morning I spent two hours trying to sort it out. Then I went outside to lay more tiles, spent 40 minutes fixing the water hose. Asked HM to go and get new hose and tap as I was spending more time fixing the hose than laying tiles. The very annoying thing about this is that hose wasn't that old and was a good reputable make. It was rubbish! Then the money ran into more problems so it still wasn't on it's way. I had to pull some strings for them to pay it over without all the company documentation they're supposed to have. It will be supplied but is going to take several days and I need this money now. So they want a copy of a utility bill and a copy of my passport. I send them with an explanation about the passport being out of data and new ones coming by armed guards (remember that). I went back to fixing hoses and laying tiles. HM come back with a new hose, connector and tap. I fit it all and turn the water on. The new tap is leaking at the joint. I came in at 12:45 to see if I had an advice that the money had gone and, by luck, noticed the email with the attachment hadn't gone, the pictures were too large. These have been scanned in on my new Cannon printer. they are stored in my "document garden" but I have no idea where that is as I can't find it. I have to scan something else in to gain access to this poxy garden, then copy the stuff I want to my document folder. I then find that they are pdf docs and I have no way to reduce the size. So I find a lo res copy of my passport and send them separately . At last they go. I get showered and changed and go off to the hospital for a final checkup on my finger. When I get back I find they cant accept an out of date passport but can accept a current photo driving licence. My French licence is duly sent, I get advice the money has gone. Look at the bank and it's there (that was quick). So now a 25 km drive to the bank in the morning (they closed our local one 5 miles away) and then back to laying tiles with a leaky hose. That may have bored you to sleep but it made me feel better just to unburden it all. Quote
robsurplice Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 ptfe tape will fix the tap one small step Quote
Norman Verona Posted August 14, 2013 Author Posted August 14, 2013 No, it's not the tap but where the hose goes into the connector. The connector has jaws which tighten on the hose when the locking ring is tightened, except they don't. It's nowhere near as bad as the old one so I wan't get as wet, but it's annoying. I expect something designed to do a job should do it. Quote

Still saves me buying a new hose if the new ones do it too. I'm convinced banks are just set up to take our money and be frustrating. Quote

Norman Verona Posted August 14, 2013 Author Posted August 14, 2013 Dave, to be honest it wasn't a bank but us that were at fault. I use a foreign exchange company called RationalFx. I created another account so I could get money from a different bank account to mine. But the stupid person, who looks very much like me, sent it from the company account. We now have to go through all the anti money laundering checks for the company. The list of stuff that's needed is very long. But, as I have a good relationship with the FX and the boss knows me they have processed it and it's in my French bank now. I've now got to get our girl Friday to get all the info ready and sent on. She will as she's a very organised person. She needs to be to look after that person who looks like me Now, don't tell me you're turning into a grumpy old man. It does start about your age. Quote
SootySport Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Another typical day at Verona towers then. And why do you need so much water to lay tiles? Quote

Norman Verona Posted August 14, 2013 Author Posted August 14, 2013 With the sun blazing down and the terracotta tiles need wetting to stick and the gobbo drying as you watch it it needs a bit of water. Not a lot but some. I spray the back of a tile, put the hose down, pick up the tile and it's bone dry. Quote

Norman Verona Posted August 15, 2013 Author Posted August 15, 2013 At the moment that's all contained in my sewn up finger. But give it a day or two.... Quote
