Terryathome Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Sooty hit the nail right on the head, extend the fixing point with metal strp to bring the adjuster to where you want it. I purchased Schroth Catterham Harness with 3" shoulder and 2" lap belt pull up configurtion and installed extender piece on lap belt to get it away from the side of the seat. Make sure you get the measurement right as you don't want to move the adjuster to much into the middle if you will not be able to tighten the lap belt up if you get what I mean. The extender that I used was the Porsche bracket from Msar motorsports, and where I got the harness aswell. I have my seat right back and the extenders were just the right lenght but if you have you seat slid forward (short legs) then the extender might have to be longer. Simples. Terry. Quote
SootySport Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 I used steel straps 95mm. long, 40mm. wide and 4 mm. thick, painted and secured by Stainless bolts, plenty strong enough for keeping my delicate body in place should an accident occur. I guess if you in a race series then an approved strap may be required. Quote
Red Flash Posted August 13, 2013 Author Posted August 13, 2013 Thanks for all the replies. [Pedant]I think you meant "Harnesses". [/Pedant] Thanks for correcting me and also making the correction I had this problem with my Playskool harness and JK seats. Solution is to add a metal strap between the chassis harness hole and the Harness fixing. Some carefull measurement required so the adjuster just fits inside the side slot of the seat. This is exactly why I thought I would post up first before giving Playskool a call. The wealth of knowledge and experience is on this forum. Are these the wide strap twist buckle harnesses for just over £100?I keep thinking about getting them, but told they rub on your neck and would be no good for long journeys. Still have page on short cuts because I'm close to buying them!!!Overall people seem happy with them. I have sport turbo seats, so hope they'll fit. For the price, I think the qualitiy is top knotch, just need to over come the issue with the position of the lap adjuster. I paid 190 for the pair including postage. An excellent buy compared with how much you could pay. If adding an extension piece as Sooty has suggested and won't effect the MoT requirements, this is what I will do If it is any consolation the Sabelt, at £180 , is awkward to do up once in the bucket seats, they tighten away from the centre buckle but there is little space. Is adding a metal strap OK from and MOT/Scrutineering point of view? This was my thought. However in order to overcome the problem, at present I see no other solution. I will have to wait until my bucket seats arrive so that I can measure and install permanently. Quote
User0083 Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Thanks Brum, What I was expecting. I'll try and find some in someone's car and have a look. Quote
Red Flash Posted August 13, 2013 Author Posted August 13, 2013 Spoke with Luke at Playskool M'sport today, extremely helpful guy. He advised to change the lap belts with ones where the adjuster is further away from the mounting point. He suggested hanging on until my seats arrive at which point I can measure the exact length the adjuster needs to be away from the mounting point. He will then exchange if required. Excellent service. Cheers Paul Quote
alexander72 Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Thats Luke all over - which reminds me.. I still owe him some dosh..... Quote
SootySport Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 I ended up with loads of spare strap material on the shoulder straps, they can be cut off and and sealed with a gentle flame. Didn't know Luke has longer waist straps though, that would be an easier solution. By the way it did take me a whole day to adjust the straps and buckles. to get the adjusters in the right place, not a 5min. job, made my fingers a bit sore as well. Quote
