Stuart Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Chaps, any recommendations for a lightweight stick-on rear view mirror? The standard Westfield one is big and heavy and keeps falling off. I don't like it and don't need the dipping mechanism. I have tried a suction mounted one but it vibrates so much it's almost useless, so for the last couple of years I have been driving without one, just relying on the wing mirrors. TIA for any info, Stuart Quote

Stuart Posted August 9, 2013 Author Posted August 9, 2013 what's wrong with the wing mirrors? Well, nowt, as i said that's all I've had for 2/3 years now. But I would quite like to see directly behind me just in case - just not with a Ford Sierra huge dipping mirror. Quote
SootySport Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 I have a suction mirror with a locking lever, doesn't vibrate at all, bought it from Halfords. Maybe it's the windscreen slightly loose on yours. Quote
Nic Chase (NICO) - Shropshire & Mid-Wales AO Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Got one of these on EBay seems to work ok, so far. I was the same as you got fed up with looking round the large dipping mirror. Mounted this low down to see if I can get on with it. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUMMIT-REAR-VIEW-MIRROR-DRIVING-INSTRUCTOR-TWIST-LOCK-/370869984399?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item565992dc8f Quote
Stuart Posted August 9, 2013 Author Posted August 9, 2013 Thanks guys, but I already have a lovely stainless framed suction mirror with a locking lever from SVC - vibrates like a vibrating thing. It replaced a cheap suction mirror from Halfords which did similar. Big Westfield supplied stick on mirror in same place doesn't vibrate. Windscreen definitely not loose. Perhaps it's just the natural resonance of my car or summat Anyone any ideas? I have seen small stick on mirrors on other Westfields but can't find anything on t'internet. If not then I'll stick with just the wing mirrors Quote
Rhett Turner - Black Country AO Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 The other thing to try is the type on a pole mounted to the scuttle, very much like you would with an Aero screen, I'm sure that others have done that and I've even considered it my self to bring it down lower so that I can see under the roll bar better. User0083 Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 I have what Rhett is describing... Works very well, picked it up at a show. I think it was Exeter, for £15, and just drilled a couple of holes and rivet's went straight in. Quote
Norman Verona Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 The side mirrors are for overtaking, the centre mirror is for police watching. Quote
Young Pretender Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 I would be lost without my centre mirror. Personally I find the side mirrors don't don't give nearly enough visibility but maybe better with some big elephant ears It's a scuttle mounted racetech centre mirror by the way. Quote
bhouse Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 You could check to see if it's a resonance issue by sticking lumps of blue tak or plasticine to each corner of the mirror. Experiment with size and position to see if a particular weight or position reduces or stops the vibration. Quote
Stuart Posted August 10, 2013 Author Posted August 10, 2013 Brian, that's an excellent idea - will give it a go this afternoon Quote
