Kit car Direct !

Evening Folks,

Have any of you made or in the process of making a purchase with Kit Car Direct?.

The reason I ask, is that I paid for a set of fiberglass seats back in June. It transpires that the company that use to make the seats for KCD have now gone bust!!. I only find this out when I make a call enquiring where my order is up to.  After numerous phone calls I have been assured that another company has been sourced to make the seats.

Without boring you with all the detail, I feel my patience and good nature has been taken for a ride!!.

Has time come for me to ask for a refund?

Would value your thoughts. Thanks for reading.

I would out if principle as they haven't told you what's going on and who's to say the new seats will be the same.

I purchased a carbon fibre dash and seat runners with KCD and received excellent service. The dash did take a couple of weeks to manufacture, but this was mentioned before the order was placed. To top it off, due to my own mistake I requested a narrowbody dash for my widebody car, which they exchanged quickly and free of charge. It was Neil who I was dealing with.

Interesting.

Probably 3 yr's ago now I had dealings with them and it wasn't good and I found their parts substandard, ended up replacing bits I bought. Had many other poor, not bad, reports and general complaints knocked around RHOCaR and guys I knew. Seen them at shows and thought they had improved and developed a bit... But still hear very mixed experiences from people.

I'd ask for a refund and say that the seats advertised and ordered are not the seats you will receive. This is due to manufacturer being changed. Once new seats are made and advertised you'll consider placing an order with them then. But you do not know how the new seats are going to look.

I'm calm and good natured too, often feel walked over... At which point I google my rights, complaints procedures, laws, etc then construct an email with extracts of evidence from consumer rights policies and things I've found... Send it to them however I've been communicating and I've had nothing but compliance as a result. Except once I had a mechanic trying to blabber his way out and rip me off... Still! His business closed and he's still unemployed. This weekend I'm actually visiting his local pub to buy him a drink and ask him how things are.

Just a thought, if the new seats are "actually" on their way to you, I'd hold on for them as they might just be what you want and you'll save a bit of bother and time. However... make sure you agree with them now that if they are not up to spec as they are a different supplier/manufacturer you expect a full refund and return of the goods at thier expense.

Not sure if I should say this or not, but they KCD buy their dashes and some other stuff from Julian @ Aerodynamix.co.uk  who is a trader on here

 

I have also been speaking the Neil and John from KCD and I can confirm they have just changed suppliers and the quality is much better on the stuff they are making

That's good news! Bad stuff I've heard is probably isolated, only hear of bad things! Then my poor quality issues are probably being resolved.

Thanks for the replies folks.

I would consider myself considerate, understanding and sympathetic where necessary.  All I expect is that they be open and honest. If they can't deliver, then fine, just offer me a refund, but don't string me along with promises they can't keep.

I've spoke with both Neil and John on different occasions and they both appeared to pleasant accommodating guys.

I appreciate they are having difficulties and that can't be pleasant and must be extremely stressful.

Are you sure you're not talking about kit spares which is part of GBS/ Robin Hood and are a completely different company to Kit car direct ?

Just had a text from John KCD, to say their new manufactures have just produced a first run of practice seats from their moulds and are happy to start production.  Mine will be the first set done.  Sure hope they are ok.

Smokey is a genius! I'm sorry to say I have the two mixed. I can remember I did the same a few years back when buying, I went to buy from kit car direct, due to issues with kit spares, but used kit spares again. So spent so long avoiding both I now have the two confused again.

Kit car direct looks good, I'll follow this thread and make a note to use them in the future.
