John Fisher Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 My old V8 handled pretty well. Mind you I only had 300 horses pulling 600kg Fish Quote
uk89camaro Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 I did my "V8 fix" through a number of yank cars, and I wouldn't dream of having one in a Westfield. I've never driven one but I would fully expect some of the previous comments about understeer to be prevalent. If you want to cruise with a V8 burble there are plenty of options,a Westy is for point and shoot, tight handling trickery. just my opinion of course. Quote
alexander72 Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Good opinion Camaro....... i'd love a V8 westy but one with 380+ horses - did Kurt sell "Flymo"?? Quote
Young Pretender Posted August 2, 2013 Author Posted August 2, 2013 Sounds a bit like some of the V8 Westys don't weigh in that differently to 4 cylinder engined cars laden with heaters, spare wheels etc. Could be one of those best kept secrets Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 It's not necessarily a question of weight in these things, it's where in the car the weight is. Nor do I simply mean 50:50 weight distribution you could achieve that, you could have masses of weight concentrated right at the front and right at the back, while still being reasonably light and having 50:50 distribution. That would still potentially be bad for turn in and handling, compared to having the weight closer to the centre of the vehicle. Quote
pistonbroke 2 Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 I've owned a number of V8 yanks, and loved them all. However, I moved to a westy to get something a bit more direct, "point and shoot", and that's what I got. I'm afraid I can't condone the underpowered (170 horses if you're lucky), understeering, underwhelming, piece of table art that is the rover V8. Get a slow yank if you like the burble (like I do), just don't destroy a westy with a nasty V8. just my opinion of course. and Scott Beeland speed series and owner of the original Boghouse Blue bought a SEight after roadtesting my own 3.9 Rover engined Wessy. You should try one before you die. Or,you could die while trying one. Quote
uk89camaro Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 If your into yank cars then handling is something your nor used to Exactly why I sold a Mustang to buy the Westy! Quote
M444TTB Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 I'd love a V8 Westfield. Perhaps a GM LSx V8 as I think they are reasonably light. Can't be much worse than some of the old 4 cylinder boat anchors that were the staple of the Seven not so long ago! Quote
Tigger Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 ........... The lightest V8 I know of is 650kg with fuel and fluids - no driver. Are you sure 650kg is correct 6carjon? Mine is 644kg with fluids but no driver and it's nothing special. Underslung exhaust Carpeted Padded sports seats Full screen with wipers Bootbox Padded dash with dials I would be interested to find out what the lightest Seight is though as I'm pretty sure if I put my mind to it I could shed at least 50kg which would take it to, well you do the maths Quote
pete g Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 you sure paul I thinks yours is 745kg or was that with driver Quote
Tigger Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 I think that was with the "Fat" drive Pete but now you got me wondering May have to weigh it again me thinks !! Quote
