Thank god I've had  my XE block returned after a few hairy weeks trying to get it re-helicoiled. Nuts and bolts of it is the guy ended up putting in a new thread. However, the big test will be when I rebuild the engine today and do the torque/%  settings on the head bolts.

I'll also be involved in re-building another XE which blow a piston.Tthe engine is out of a 225bhp 4x4 Nova! which he uses to play on his farm :)  he has no problems when it comes to get the grain in ;)

Well the engine re-build didn't got to plan. After the return of my block on friday night the full horrors were revealed in the day light hours... the fact that no attempt was made to cover the bores up to stop the bores, oil channels etc from getting swarf in.There were bits of swarf every where

So I had to strip the block back taking out the crank and pistons.Strip and clean the pistons and clean the crank. Thank god I'd not tightend the ARP rod bolts or that would have been  another £60 down the drain... anyway got the block flushed and cleaned re assembled got everthing back in place head, carbs etc   and as I got round to torquing(12ft/lbs) up the sump bolts on of the bas***ds snapped           so I now have to drill the bl**ding thing out now, well I'd had enough by this time, plus to add a turd to the top of the ****e pile, when it came to replace the cam belt, (well its never straight forward in 'Billsberry World';). I now had to remove the 'Jesus bolt' because the deep 'v' ally alternator pulley is there and you can't slip the belt over the top of that & I can't take that off because the dry sump pulley lip covers the bolts that hold the alternator pulley in place.... so I've got take the crank shaft bolt out ???  ???

Thats not a problem in itself it just I need a silver back Aplha male  mountain gorilla to torque the new Jesus bolt back upto 185ft/lbs

:(  :(

I decide enough was enough. I went back into the house, had a shower and broke in to 1st alcholic beverage of the year..... Stella.

Jammy git, must admit its a pain. I had thoughts of floggin' the car on monday and buy a nice big heavy Sebring TMX V8. I do like them, plus they've got doors and posh things like that :)

But my 'strop' has fizzed  out now after I had a visit to Paul @ Plays-kool, he thought my plight  was funny. He's a top bloke and he must get sick to death of me phoning him every single day for advice. Its a shame he's a 'T' Totaller or I'd owe him  a year's production from our local brewery

Happy Motoring

you can just about get the belt on without removing the pulley

also those 6 pulley bolts are there for a reason :D

mind you it will be a bit tight if the engines in a westfield :p

also the ARP bolts (not the pro ones tho) are reusable to a great degree and could be undone and renipped up if needed.

good luck getting it all together mate :t-up:
