Deadscoob1 Posted December 10, 2002 Posted December 10, 2002 Seems like Mr Palmer has taken objection to people not accepting what he said. He's now banned SIDC from Bedford. So remember kids, if your car is slightly too noisy cos Bedford lower the limit and your car consequently fails, don't kick up a fuss. Theres some fragile egos down there lol So if Scoobs and other fairly quiet cars can't pass - no wonder we weren't allowed on JP spit's it out
XTR2Turbo Posted December 10, 2002 Posted December 10, 2002 I think a sad outcome after all the events that Saturday and the postings on Scoobynet. I'm surprised that if the cars passed the original sound check (and every car coming through the front gate was checked) that there should be so many problems. to cater for these situations I also don't understand why there is not a discrete hand held dictator to pick out any 'problem' cars and deal with them individually. I think a great venue that I would hope to take my STR2 to so hopefully things sort themselves out. David
peterg Posted December 11, 2002 Posted December 11, 2002 Well JP has to do something to keep the plebs away so he can encourage well-to-do drivers to use his track so he can pay for his helicopter somehow........we used to live 2 miles from his house and every weekend and most weekdays saw him buzzing around in his chopper and I don't suppose that's changed in the last few years If and when the recession hits his business he may be more accomodating to enthusiasts and less willing to buckle under pressure from 'locals' over what is a tiny amount of noise
Matt Seabrook Posted December 11, 2002 Posted December 11, 2002 Noise pollution is becoming a bigger problem not a smaller one. If you need to keep the local council happy so that you could keep your £30,000,000 investment taking money then I think you may see this in a different light. Look at it like this if you had a noise meter at the end of your road controlled by the police and you had to meet 87db every time you passed it or your car would be impounded would you keep driving past it knowing your car was 90db I think not. You could protest all you like about this harsh treatment as I expect JP has but it will not get you anywhere. If JP could get the noise level raised he would surely get more business so it would be in his interest. I also think that if you have been offered your money back that this above and beyond what is being offered by other circuits. Not bad when you think that this is one lost sale though no fault of the vendor. The rules are made clear before you get to B.A.D. and looking at the 87db noise limit I would not consider this venue for my car as I am sure it would be marginal at best. I thing to remember it is not just exhaust noise that is the problem with drive by testing it is total noise. SBD claim to have measured 120db from an uncovered induction system so unless you have a good air box fitted no amount of exhaust silencing is going to help.
deadscoob Posted December 11, 2002 Posted December 11, 2002 Yes but Matt, the problems occurred because Bedford LOWERED the limit to 85db on the day without warning....that's what caused the problems.
ChrisG Posted December 11, 2002 Posted December 11, 2002 Matt, from what I've read, the issue wasnt the fact that people failed the original 87db noise test. All cars passed a static test coming in to the circuit, but Jonathon Palmer evidently turned up after a couple of locals had complained of the on-track noise, and he insisted that all cars were re-tested whilst being driven by his own staff as he felt some were lifting off for the drive-by. A bit of a strange request but fair enough I guess. The anger was caused when he then LOWERED the noise limit to 85db for no other reason than "cars generally get noiser through the day", which meant that people like Craig, who had passed the 87db drive-by test with a Bedford Aerodrome driver (so had passed all noise tests published in the T's and C's), suddenly failed by 0.5db and were sent packing. This is what caused all the argument, and quite rightly so in my opinion. Chris
Club Secretary (Reserve) Posted December 11, 2002 Posted December 11, 2002 Sorry fellas. Ive read the stuff on Scoobynet, and we're getting the same sort of stuff here. I CANNOT allow the arguments to continue on here. The WSCC boardroom is NOT the place for this. It doesn't affect our club, and there is no reason it should. Please desist from further discussion of this subject on here.
