D7PNY Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Got a letter in the post this morning from a company called 'mk rapid recoveries'. This letter refers to previous communication (that didn't occur) regarding a debt of £2,844.66 to Barclaycard. Now, I don't owe Money to anyone so either a scam or someone's done some sort of credit card fraud? The letter is requesting payment (good one!) And says they will continue to contact me until agreement is reached to clear the balance. Don't want to completely ignore incase someone has managed to run up a bill in my name so going to phone Barclaycard and speak with them and report this. May then phone these clowns back and give them what for Dave Quote
Captain Colonial Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Do not phone or communicate with MK! They are a debt recovery company. Basically, they buy lists of bad debts from credit card companies and the like and chase them before the six year SB time limit runs out. If the person who owes the money responds, the six year period restarts. If you have a Barclaycard, call the number on the back and request a balance. If it isn't what you think it should be, tell them you suspect fraudulent purchases and request a complete printout of all activity. Quote
User0083 Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 I thought it sounded completely different to usual scams. Most scams I've known about play the good guy. Like a relative that's died in Nigeria and your his only next of kin, they have a large sum of money ready to pay into an account... I know every debt I owe, to the penny, who too and why. I admit I owe £89,326.16 to natwest... But that's for our house in Devon!!! Quote
D7PNY Posted July 20, 2013 Author Posted July 20, 2013 Just called Barclaycard and they confirmed no account in my name so not as if anyone has taken out an account in my name. Then decided to call this shower of sh#te. gave the reference off the letter and said that I had spoken to the so called creditor who had confirmed no record of an account in my name. The guy kept asking for my date of birth which was quite funny as I said no chance. Said that this debt (if it indeed exists)was nothing to do with me and that if they contact me again I will report them to the fraud agency. Quote
pickmaster Andy Lowe Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Sometime just calling these company's put you on a pay per min phone line and some of those charges can be very high indeed Be careful Quote
Norman Verona Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Put it back in its envelope and write "gone away" and pop it back in a post box. Quote
pistonbroke Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Put it back in its envelope and write "gone away" and pop it back in a post box. This , but don't forget to use it for toilet purposes first Quote
