Mark (smokey mow) Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 As people keep asking me about my latest project and now that I have something to actually show for it, it's time I started a build thread/blog of some description to show some pics and give a bit of history of the car...... But what should it be? A build thread or a blog? Quote
Pistol Pete Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 But put it in Technical rather Stuff & nonsense Quote
Hellski Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 Personally I prefer to read a build thread as I find it easier to follow and like to read other peoples comments. On one other forum I follow (non car related) you're able to select to show the thread starters posts only which is another useful future if you don't wish to read anything posted by anyone else, not sure whether this feature is possible on here? Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 The same, I find build threads generally more interesting - particularly as it allows a much more two way discussion between the original poster and any contributors. Which I often find is great for sparking ideas off, either for the project in question or for those of the contributors. The blogs are OK, (not something I've ever been into really, I admit) but always seem a bit static and one dimensional, a bit like reading someones diarry, with a few side notes scrawled in! Quote
Dommo Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 Depends how quick progress will be. Anything less than weekly updates would suit a blog rather than thread if you ask me. Quote
pickmaster Andy Lowe Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 I like a blog for upgrades but a thread for bigger projects like builds where advice and inputs is a bigger part of it I did a blog for my xflow to ST engine swap so its more a step by step guide to make it easier for less experienced DIYers to follow With parts list and prices itemized at the end to help sum up everything all in one place before starting This blog wouldn't have worked the same on a full build Quote
WestyNottm Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 I prefer thread to blog due to the two-nature for comments etc. It feels a lot less voyeuristic as a result!! Quote
M444TTB Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 I voted blog. Most people dot update their original post with the latest so it can be hard to follow with all the other comments. Quote
Captain Colonial Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 A thread seems to get more immediate response, but hard to find after periods of inactivity A blog is a more useful record that's easier to read and find, but less interactive (good and bad thing). So depends on whether you want an easy to find permanent record, or something to show off about. Horses, courses, etc. ) Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 Search engine sorts with the hard to find aspect! Quote
ALLADDIN Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 thread bloggs are for hiding it. better still put your thread in the build section . oops there isnt one. Quote
Hellski Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 thread bloggs are for hiding it. better still put your thread in the build section . oops there isnt one. Build section on the forum would be very useful for locating all relevant threads Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted July 17, 2013 Author Posted July 17, 2013 Thanks for the feedback guys it appears that a thread will be favourite Now I'd better get some pics taken and start writing Quote
