pistonbroke 2 Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 My loving Daughter has just rang me. Up in Scotland for a Holliday and the clutch has gone on the car ( Focus Ghia ) been told it can cost around £1000.00. by some jerk. I reckon circa £400.00. is prob. about right. Of cousrse my Angel has no money for a clutch so Daddykins will have to shell. Quote
Norman Verona Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 The three clutch components will be about £150 so £400 won't be far out. Anyway, how are you keeping? I'm still playing my new Ella and Miles cd's in the car, true heaven. I was with a retired musician last night, he played with all the great jazz bands and was rattling off names left right and centre. Quote
dombanks Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 depends if it needs a new dual mass flywheel too. if it does then i wouldnt be surprised at it being over 600 Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Must admit, when I read the post first off, I thought DM flywheel being replaced too. Got to be worth checking exactly what they're looking to do. (Regardless of who actually ends up doing the work). Quote
Davep1 Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 If its a TDCi with a DMF - the quoted figure from places like Mr Clutch is around 900 - 1000, so not really surprised at your quote. Usual to replace the slave cylinder as well. Quote
Norman Verona Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 I thought Dual Mass flywheels were the sole domain of the VAG group. You live and learn. Quote
FILFAN Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 There has to be something said for running an older car Quote
FILFAN Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 mechanically i would rather have an older car. all these egr valves, swirl flaps dual mass wheels. vvt pulleys etc. are just there waiting to go wrong and usually with a hefty bill. the most i ever had to worry about was an ignition problem usually from the dizzy or a blocked fuel filter. £20 would fix 90% of everything. i sure wasnt looking at spending 2-3 weeks wages on a clutch Quote

I used a A4 sized bit of plastic just behind the grille on my mini's to stop dizzy getting wet... Then it started a trend. Mates of mine are shocked when they have an issue with their car and I can diagnose the issue from their description and most the time solve it for them. I even considered a fault diagnostics reader to turn off service lights and see if their fault is something simple, like an air filter! Quote
