What is wrong with the New Topic page?

After spending 1.40mins before steam rallying at lunchtime writing a carefully thought-out ad I needed to check the name of a piece of kit, put it in 'search' then 'enter'  -  blew all my text! (By the way, what is a web synchrometer?)  Anyway, patiently worked for another 1.40mins rewriting the lot, checked and hit the 'autosave' - it's all gone again!! (Well, not totally  -  it's gone back to the basic unmodified version before I started 'fine-tuning' this morning) and all this before I dare start thinking of pics!  

What am I doing wrong?

I've taken to copying the text with ctrl + C because the odd hosting issue has lost me long posts before.
