Glen H Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Taking some clients to the event and got general admission tikets for the Friday and Saturday and roving grantstand for the Friday (Sat was sold out), ok for hotels as they are all sorted but anyone been before and got any hints & tips to make it a more enjoyable day or just make the day / weekend run smoother and more planned. Thanks Glen Quote
jeff oakley Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Make sure you all have good walking shoes. I took some guests before and the women turned up in high heels the year it was wet with a capital W. If you are providing food unless you book hard to control for guests. Take plenty of money as whatever you think it will cost double at least. If you get in a grandstand then watch all the runs through once, they do repeat and then get out to the rally stage and stands. Drink plenty and if it is like this take lots of sun screen as there is little in the way of shade. Don't accept every freebie bag going early on as they weigh a ton half way through the day. Usually the car stands Nissan etc are good for free drinks if you dress smartly, a good watch works wonders as well to get on the higher class stands. Molecombe is a good spot to spectate as it is the end of a fast section and evry year I have gone there has always been incidents there. Ear plugs for the F1 cars as they are very loud. Get there early, I always aim for 7.00am, then have a breakfast when in there, stay late as all the traffic goes from 4 onwards. I have had clients who set off from Southampton at 8.30 and gave up trying to get in as at 11.00am they were still queing to get in. Did I mention take lots and lots of money. Quote
Norman Verona Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Our friends are going and then coming on here. Quote
dmac800 Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 I'm going . Driving all the way down from the North coast to the South coast. My fifth time at it, truly the best all round motorsport event Quote
Stuart Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Somewhat tangential, but if you/clients might like a bit of soulful jazz, then perhaps check out the Tony O'Malley band - playing both Friday and Saturday at 10am. Tony was a leading light of the completely unsung '70s soul outfit Kokomo. They were superb live and he still puts on a great show. Here Quote
Bigjas Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 I've been going since 1994 (I live near by), and I worked there for 5 years as a scrutineer for the Soapboxes. Here are my top tips....... Get there early, not just to avoid the traffic getting in to Goodwood, but also to look around the paddocks before the crowds get there. The F1 paddock gets very busy and its hard to look at all the cars and bikes properly (I don't like big crowds of people). Visit the Rally stages at the top of the hill during the hottest part of the day, its set in woodland and its nice to get some shade as the rest of the venue has very little cover. There are tractor rides that will take you to the top. Take a packed lunch and a water bottle. There are drinking water taps there to fill up and the queues and prices of food and drinks makes it hard work. 2 days should be enough to see most of it, there is a lot there and 1 day is not enough. As said before, wear comfortable clothing if you want to see it all, the weather forcast is looking good so should be ok, its not nice there when it rains............... Don't rush out at the end of the day, you will only sit in traffic in the car parks. Have another look around the paddocks or go to have a look around the stalls and corporate areas. Most of the champagne stalls etc usually stay open after the track action has finished. It always amazes me that people will spend all that money on a great day out and try and beat the traffic by leaving early?!! Have a great weekend, I will. Jas Quote
IanG1 Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 I agree with all the above, we have always hung around after the action has stopped and just meandered around the paddock and had a proper look at some of the stuff when it aint rammed. We have left around seven and got straight out, no point queing when you could be viewing............. Quote
Glen H Posted July 9, 2013 Author Posted July 9, 2013 Thanks gents, some good bits of info there and i'm sure it will help make it a better experience for us Quote
iain m Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Few more tips, get there early so you can walk and not have to take the tractor bus, avoid the A27 Chichester By Pass, it's a nightmare every morning without Goodwood Events, if you are taking the Westie take care over the metal road sections several members have caught their sumps on the joints and one guy ripped his engine/gearbox out, and finally I spent ages finding the Westfield stand last year, they are not attending this year . It look like being a hot weekend, brilliant Quote
