Taking the plunge.... Anyone know this one?!

Hi

Very, very new member who has been wanting a westfield for years. Came down to the factory this week to try out one and found I only fitted a car with the lowered floor. Short of cutting a few inches off my legs, or finding an extra £8k for the nice white one I do fit, I've been trying to see what else is around. I've come across this one. Does anyone know the car and its history?

Thanks

Currigg, welcome to the club.

You may get better answers if you tell everyone what it is and the colour. I assume it's a Vauxhall engined car unless that's a co-incidence,

Lowered floors can be retro fitted, buy the one you like the spec of and fit lowered floors to it... ;)

have you tried a car with the seats straight to the floor without runners. it makes a massive difference also does the style of seat

Thanks for the feedback do quickly. It's burgundy and I'm told its a zetec with 180bhp.

Didn't know you could retro fit the floor. Difficult job for a useless paper pusher??

I'm 6ft 4 and fit in mine no problem with shell style seats mounted with no runners.

I fitted a spacer to my quick release boss on the steering wheel which really helped to.

As others have said above, very easy to tweak things so you can fit comfortably unless you are 8ft tall that is ;)

An 8 foot Scottish paper pusher. Now there's a sight.

Dave, as above, none of the above is difficult. You'll need a drill and some bits, maybe some screws and nuts. They'll talk you through the process on the techie page. Biggest expense will be the shell type seats. I can't be specific as I don't have a Westfield but I have Tillet carbon shell type seats and comfortably used to drive Sheffield to Le Mans and have driven from here in West France to Sheffield with no problems. In fact I'd say they were more comfortable than the leather seats I had before.

This is them whilst I did a rebuild:

The best thing I can suggest, (though might be tricky, depending how far north you are), is to get along to a local meet. That way you should be able to see a few more Westfields all in one place, and the key thing, lots of different solutions as far as cabin space goes.

In reality, as others have said, they're remarkably flexible cars, and there's quite a bit you can do, before you need to go to the dropped floor stage. (Though having recently tried a dropped floor car, I agree, they're very good!)

As well as the alternative seats, flat bottomed steering wheels etc, you can also raise the height of the wheel itself, with a little work. (The column mounts on spacer blocks, which can be changed to alter its height and angle).

if ultimately, you do find dropped floors the only way to go, then they are available as a retrofit from at least one reputable source, and may even still be available from the factory.

Meant to say that you may use the fact that you'll have to fit new seats and lowered floor (even if you don't) as a bargaining tool.

Hi Currigg, and welcome to the Club! :)

Don't be shy, tell us a little bit more about where you are and what you're looking for in your Westy. Are you looking for some fun fast road driving, fast fast road driving with maybe the odd track day or pure track day monster?

Although distances is an issue, we try to meet regularly and it's usually around the Central belt/Fife area but I know that a few guys in the NE are looking to get together once in a while for a blether.

We also try to mix it up a little when in comes to blats and try to get at least one in most areas of Scotland. ;)

Never noticed you were in Scotland!

I know of a good cheap well sorted westfield for sale ;)

Depends what you are after as Bombero mentioned above though. Mine is a track orientated car but use it on the road all the time.

Cheers,

The reg number starting VX suggests to me that it was registered in the same office as the Westfield factory register their cars. Might be a factory built car? Mine was, and starts with VX.

edited to add, it is also a ford engine.

The registration shows it as registered in Worcester in 2008, and might tell a little bit more with an on line check. But realistically, without even an advert to jog someones memory, you're going to struggle to get much more info from someone, just from a reg number. (I can't even remember my own licence number these days, let alone anyone elses!)

I would also second fitting shell type seats.  I have lowered floors on my Zero and this was fine with the standard seats.  I upgraded to a Tillett B6 (great seat by the way) and even on runners it is a lot lower.  I ended adding some extra 1inch box sction to raise it up a bit and I am still sitting lower in the car than I was before.
