I know some of you are experts at Excel spreadsheets.

Can someone tell me how I can get column C to be a multiplication of column B.

B is miles and I want C to be kilometers.

Many thanks, I've never used spreadsheets much before, I had an accountant who did that!

In the column cell say c3 (or whatever) type

=b3*1.852

Then select c3 with the mouse, "copy"

Then select all the range if c cells you want the conversion in and select paste

Remember to chose the paste option of formula, hover over it choose as you don't want the contents of the source cell

There are some good tutorials on line if you google excel and wot you want to do

If you just paste - it will be the formula , you need a paste special to paste values etc instead of formulas , so ignore that !

Arent there 1.6 km to the mile though?

Who cares it's only for the taxman, they never get things right!

Or - so you can change the multiplyer at anytime (once ervyone has decided how may km are in a mile :-) without changing every cell you've used the formula in:

Put the nunber in a cell at the top of the page where it doesn't matter (you could hide the row you put it in) say it was cell D1

Your formula would then be: +B3*$D$1

Copy that formula down the page - it will always reference D1

Make sense?

I think so.

I'm busy with DIY until the end of next week. Then I have a really good idea..... I'll send it to my son, the excel expert and ask him to do it. Only problem with that is it will take him 3 months and 20 emails from me to get it done. Then he'll complain about the number of emails I send him.

Maybe I'll do it as above.

PM me with what you want, and your email address and I'll knock something up for you

Tightscot, that's very kind but I'll manage with the advice above. If not I've got son who can do it. He's a real geek, reads Microsoft programming manuals in bed!
