Norman Verona Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Look at THIS If you haven't seen it before then it's worth a read. However, the reason for this post is the list, at the bottom, of "similar" cars. I think the W196R will break all auction records and may well be the most expensive car ever sold. So I laughed out loud when I got to the bottom of the article. Quote
peterg Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Ah yes, "similar" in that they have a 3 pointed star on the front..... and that's it Quote
User0083 Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Some of the "similar cars" may increase in value solely due to that article/advert. Quote
Norman Verona Posted June 28, 2013 Author Posted June 28, 2013 Peter, what's your thoughts on it's potential value. It's probably the only one that will ever come up for sale as the rest are either owned by MB or in museums. I'll go out on a limb and say $50m dollars, about £35m of our pounds. Probably way off but it won't surprise me given the current market. Quote

Probably way off but it won't surprise me given the current market. I have no idea what it will go for but I reckon there are some people out there who will pay whatever it takes to own it... it wouldn't surprise me if it went to $80-90m - if there's a Russian oligarch who wants it then the sky really is the limit, did you see the programme about the 9 Faberge eggs? a Russian bought them in a private deal the day before they were due for auction for somewhere well over $100m and with his net worth of $15 Billion I guess that's just petty cash to him. Quote
Norman Verona Posted June 28, 2013 Author Posted June 28, 2013 That was my thinking. We'll have to see. I missed the Faberge egg programme. However, if you've ever seen one for real they're probably worth that. Exquisite is a word that springs to mind. Quote
Norman Verona Posted July 15, 2013 Author Posted July 15, 2013 I think with buyers premium is was close to £20m, not far off the $35m predicted. Oh, and this is a re-post of the second kind. ed to add that an explanation may be in order. HERE Quote
