mikef Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 We have an old wooden summer house in the garden much beloved by SWMBO. The double doors are now very rotten and need replacing and I have tried hard to find some replacements but only to discover that they are not of a standard size. I have thus resorted to contacting about 6 local joiners/carpenters to get a bespoke pair made. Of the 6 I contacted, 3 did not return my calls, 2 said they were too busy and one has been round to quote (perhaps this is a comment on the state of the local economy). Anyway, I now have a quote but have nothing with which to compare it. Each door has 12 panes of glass. Bearing in mind that I will be swapping the glass over from the old doors, fitting the panes, fitting the lock and painting them etc, the quote is as follows: In soft wood £271 + VAT In hard wood £382 + VAT Does this seem about right or am I being taken for a ride??? Thank you. Quote
bigals Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 If you say seventy pounds for materials then the soft wood quote is about right in my opinion as most trades will be looking at a day rate of £200 , I might be trying to get him to hang them for me tho Good luck Alan Quote
woodman Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Sonds reasonable to me you could look at possibility of using std doors and having the frame made to suit. depends on size tho. but may be slightly cheaper Quote
