gavinnn
Hopefully someone will be able to help me with my question...I have an SE with an Rx-8 231 engine in it but I did a track day the other week and the engine kicked out some serious smoke, we had a second silencer made to put on the back and also a pipe connecting the 2. However this pipe was lobstered and not mandrel bent and sent too much back pressure causing the engine to suddenly bellow out smoke. We have had issues with noise but this silencer would do the trick if the pipe was bent correctly, but because of the smoke the engine needs stripping and rebuilding. We eventually had enough as we have had a fair few issues so we have bought a duratec powered FW. I am now stuck with what to do with the old one, how much is it worth as a car as I suppose someone may wish to carry on the project. Or do I break it and get the money back that way, the biggest problems I have with this is that the bodywork is useless apart from for that engine cause it has holes everywhere to accommodate. The chassis has also had to be adapted in a few areas but it has a full roll cage and I do have the V5C so I don't want to weigh it in! I'll give a run down on what the car has on it so you guys can help me further - Live axle, 4.1:1 with Tran-x plate LSD with sierra rear callipers - Wilwood dynalite front callipers with half worn mintex 1144 and I also have a brand new set of pads, all 4 discs have no lip and a lot of life left - Aluminium front hubs - Tilton brake and clutch aluminium pedal box, 2 x .75 master cylinders and 1 .50 master cylinder. Also has bias bar with dash mounted adjuster - The bonnet would be perfect for someone with a c20xe as that was what was originally in the car so the holes would match up - Pair of generic Luke harnesses (I'm keeping the Schroth ones) - Rally design wishbones and I also have steel camber adjusters not the ally ones they supply - Protech dampers - Carbon fibre aero screen - BJR Technology digi-dash (not road legal) I can sell the Rx-8 engine and gearbox to a rebuilder or over ebay etc, I also have another engine low on compression that I was going to play around with but I could sell that one as well, even though they are technically dead they are still valuable. Any advice would be appreciated! I didn't want to take up a for sale thread as nothing is technically for sale yet.

SootySport
Interesting engine to plant in a Westfield Gavin, shame you didn't persist in sorting the problems. It would be a daring car builder to take the project on and only cheap - cheap would have it sold. Looks like the parts are worth more than the sum of the whole car, I would strip it and sell them. Steve D is always on the lookout for a chassis as he rebuilds them, one of the few that does.
Ragged Racing
I would strip it and sell me Protech dampers please, if they are in good condition.
Mooch
However this pipe was lobstered and not mandrel bent Que??
gavinnn
Que?? We told them that we wanted an extra silencer and to mount it on the back, they then asked us to come down and speak to them to design where it would flow to get from A to B. We explained where we reckon it should go and they set to work, when we picked it up we didn't think as I'm no exhaust specialist, otherwise I would of built the thing it wasn't until it actually bellowed out with smoke and we got it home that we began to come to a conclusion, spoke to several people including exhaust specialists and all said the same. Unfortunately the company doesn't want to take responsibility and kept wanting their pipe back but we said no as that's our evidence of it being built. The welding is also like pigeon poo, the tubes aren't even lined up and you can see the welds quite clearly on the inside! We were under the assumption is would be nice, smooth, mandrel bends due to them making manifolds etc until we picked it up but didn't think as I've already said. The company do have a bender just not 2.5", but they never told us that!
Mooch
Thanks for the explanation, Gavin, I'm still not sure where the crustaceans came into the equation though.....

gavinnn
Thanks for the explanation, Gavin, I'm still not sure where the crustaceans came into the equation though..... From the back of a lobster, lots of pipes welded together sort of looks similar. Or just from this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MhksEJMpfI
