Dave Posted May 24, 2002 Posted May 24, 2002 Hi, Need to get a new crash helmet for track days and in the future sprints & hillclimbs. If I get one from a local bike shop what stickers / BS numbers should it have, to comply with MSA rules? I dont really want to go to deamon T**ts or Grand prix Ta Quote
Blatman Posted May 24, 2002 Posted May 24, 2002 BS6658 type A is the "road legal" standard for motorcycle helmets, and helmets bearing this marking are legal for UK motorsport, and will be VAT free. A helmet bearing a red sticker with the same number but with "Type A/FR" means it has a fire resistant lining. If you go for a "non legal" (as far as motorcycling on the road goes, ie not BS kite marked) helmet, look for the Snell 2000 standard. You will pay VAT on these. You will no doubt see helmets bearing the new "euro" standard of ECE 22 (I think). This standard is currently NOT recognised by the MSA as suitable for motorsport. Quote
