Watching football...PSG have just substituted David Beckham after 69 minutes. He was playing well but looked really knackered....IMHO a really sad moment, underlining the fact that he is really very near the end of a amazing career.

Love or loathe him he won`t be forgotten, whatever turn his career takes at the end of the season.

Well Ibrahimovich has just equalised so gotta go! :t-up:

I didn't realise he was still an active player.

Not into football me, never have been.

I thought he played well. But he's 38 and whilst he paced himself he couldn't keep going.

Brave choice by the manager though.

Great result for the whole PSG team though Norm.....second equaliser 4 minutes into added time........stuff of dreams.Don`t think they`ll come through game in Spain though.

Cant see why anyone would have a problem with becks, one of the last true great talented footballers, and a true gent as well :) giving his entire wage to a local charity, struggle to see any footballers of todays era doing taht! :)

Whilst I thoroughly applaud Beckhams actions giving his wages to charity and indeed applaud how well he has done both on and off the pitch, I read somewhere that Brand Beckham essentially works when he is still in the limelight. So his PSG wages are a drop in the ocean to the added benefit of continuing to play at a high level in Europe.

This is not a knock at him and agree how many other footballers would do the same today.

(I did read at the weekend that Rooney has invested into a scheme with Theo from Dragons Den to provide funds for small businesses)

and he gives money to charity

Graham agree, I can't see them winning at the Nue Camp.

Echo and St2. The wages payed to the England players goes to charity. They don't make a big announcement about it.

Great though it is to hear about the players doing so much for charity. My greatest respect goes to those that we don't know about doing all the work for charity. There the ones that aren't also managing to "build the brand" with their good works.

I wouldn't knock Beckham for "building his brand". He should cash in as much as he can as long as a) it legal, b) it doesn't hurt anyone. c) he pays his tax.

Except there were multiple press announcements in 2007 when they started it. I think the key word is wages which amounts to about £5k per match, other monies such as sponsorship related are retained by the players

Sorry S2T, there has been a charitable trust from well before 2007. Even if it's "only" £5000 that amounts to probably £100,000 per game.

Wish my charity, when I had one, could get that sort of money.
