tolf Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 The head of Samoa Air has defended the airline's decision to start charging passengers according to their weight..... Not long me thinks :A***: Quote
ajpearson Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Why shouldn't it be done that way. Weight is critcal to flying, its the reason for using more fuel etc etc. i dont think its a bad idea, but should maybe done on a category basis. e.g. normal weight = normal pay. normal weight +20% pay more. Teach people for being overweight Quote
Norman Verona Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 I don't use RyanAir any more. Used to go back and forward about 4 times a year. Had it of pat. Book on line and pay no more than £20. Check in on line and carry only a bag small enough to fit in overhead locker. No extra charges at all. And I was usually first through customs at both ends whilst others waited for their baggage. However, if they start charging by weight, that fare would probably double. Quote
tolf Posted April 2, 2013 Author Posted April 2, 2013 I have a PPL, so am aware of weight issue. What about people who are overweight due to medical reasons, such as Thyroid problems, is it fair that they pay extra through no fault of theirs? Agree that fat b******ds and people who CAN do something about their weight should pay more. Quote
User0083 Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 I think it should be say 100 kg's per person, this allows slim females, 50kgs, to take 50kg's of shoes, dresses and handbags. And 120kg elephants (doubt a Westfield owner would be 120kg's!) would have to pay a fortune for being 20kg's over, plus luggage! Quote
Captain Colonial Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Errrr...this is SAMOAN Airlines. Hav you seen the size of an average Samoan? Quote
WINGNUT Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Thats why they wear sandles or no shoes at all Dont need the allowance for em Quote
User0083 Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 What about people who are overweight due to medical reasons, such as Thyroid problems, is it fair that they pay extra through no fault of theirs? Once on thyroxine body weight would return to normal. Everyone overweight has an excuse. Nobody will admit it's due to how much they really eat and drink. I've put on weight since getting run over as not been able to train 2-3 hrs a day in the gym, but started walking 20-30 miles a day 3 or 4 days a week (walk Mrs C 4 miles to work, then back home 8 miles, collect her from work, another 8 miles, then I work 2 miles away so 4 miles in total and somedays I'd walk 5 miles into town) but this didn't stop the weight, so altered diet, still not helped much and I can't wait to get back to the gym! Young Pretender Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 I don't see how it's possible.. Order your ticket online at a standard rate then pay any extra at the airport if you're overweight? Queues of people stripping off and waiting to get weighed complaining that their scales at home said they were fine etc.. I've been wrong plenty of times before but I say now that it'll never catch on Quote
User0083 Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 I'd have to wear sandals and Mrs C's bikini! Quote
