The battery is roughly 6.x amp hours (20 amp hour lead acid equivalent) It can start the carlb_icon1.png short term just fine, but the cells are being overtaxed-- the discharge rate (coupled with AH) isn't enough for an engine bigger than around 1.2 liters. Thats why the battery is so light-- the cells arent dense at all. The cells will get damaged after a short time and quickly become inefficient.

In our tests using a comparable battery (when we were first trying to see how many AH, etc we needed and how light we could make the battery), it lasted about three months of "semi-daily" use on the Exige S.

It all comes down to what you use it for-- if you are looking to get every ounce off your carlb_icon1.png for a race season, it may make sense to get one or two a season and consider them disposables.

Ps- Judging from their warranty... They seem to agree with me wink.gif

Their "3 year" warranty:

1-6 Months — Free Replacement
7-12 Months — 75% discounticon1.png from retail
13-24 Months — 50% discount from retail
24-36 Months — 25% discount from retail

All found on the Lotus Talk forum...

Not sure I'd want to spend £360 on a battery either.  :o .. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ballistic-EVO2-16Cell-Compact-Lithium-Ion-Battery-Race-Competition-Cars-1-6Kg-/230877558728?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item35c15ff7c8

you could buy an awful lot of Odyssey PC625 batteries for that ;)

I guess people who want the ultimate lightest battery (and have lots of money) might try the Ballistic ones but most of us less well-heeled amateurs compromise and fit Odyssey PC625 or PC680 (also sold under the name Powervamp)* which save a lot of weight over conventional wet cell batteries and can be fitted in any position without cost more than £100

*Varley Redtop batteries are widely used and comparable to these but usually cost a bit more

I don't think there are many Westfield owners running them, there are probably more, but the only one I can remember is JohnCH who doesn't come on the Boardroom so often. He did seen pleased with his, though I don't recall what brand etc. I think they've been a little more common over on the Darkside - I recall a few threads about them on Blatchat.

like everything, it's a co promise, it's just the Lithium Ion batteries are a different set of compromises.

The other thing that springs to mind though, is everything else on the car as light as it can possibly be? (And do you need it to be?)

One of the traders on Locostbuilders sells them here they are quite reasonably priced and he seems like a nice chap.
