Hi, can anyone help? I'm after a tom tom sat nav that you can program with 'itinerary planning'. I'm quite happy to look at old or refurb. The new ones produced do not accept more than 3 destinations for one trip:-( . I believe you can buy a new sat nav and remove easy menu but I don't know how easy this is. Does anyone know. Please help need one before the end of April. Thanks in advance.

You can download the manual of each tomtom model and check which have the itinerary planning chapter

An old 720 920 730 930 will be ok

An old one xl too

I have a one xl live that is also compatibel and i keep it for this option... I bought mine for around 50 pounds

You should find one easily on ebay quite cheap as they are considered as obsolete. They are easy to repair and spare parts are cheap ( screen and battery)

Hope that helps

Yes, ebay is the source, just pay attention to the location of the item, if in china it can take a few weeks to come... Better to buy an item already in europe, a little more expensive but usually shipping is quicker

Geoff, many thanks for the offer. I should have waited longer before going out and buying a Garmin and having to convert the itn files. Once again this forum forum comes up trumps.

No worries. I'll stick it on the for sale section.

Has anyone looked at the new Tom Tom Rider, looks just possible that the itn set up might be back again! Would love to know for sure.

Looks like it from their reference to Tyre :).

Oh yeah, loads more details on Tom Tom's site now; it's not cheap, but looks very promising.:d

Hope the following is of help?

I don't know much about Tom Tom's or Sat Navs in general but the itinerary planing on the old Tom Toms is held in high regard.

Well I was given a .itn (Tom Tom Route file from the TYRE PROGRAM) to explore.

I was about to buy a new Tom Tom Sat Nav but they now do not allow you to program them with an .itn file. B**ll*.

Can you convert the file to another file format that can be read by another make of Sat Nav? Yes, well at least for me.

There are many cheap Garmin Sat Navs  available (some really cheap on-line deals) so this is the avenue I went down.

Download routeconverter from http://www.routeconverter.de/downloads/en.

This will allow you to load an .itn file. (from the TYRE program). Once loaded you can save it as a .gbx file (Garmin).

NOW GO TO

www.garmin.com .

  • Hover the mouse pointer over “Support” then click “Software”
  • Click “Mapping Programs”
  • From here, install BaseCamp.

Open Base Camp.

Click "FILE" import into garmin1.gpx.

Find the .itn file you made using TYRE program or one you have been sent on your computer hard drive.

Connect the Garmin Sat Nav.

In BASE CAMP program; Click on "DEVICE" press send to device and the converted file is sent to the Garmin Sat Nav.

Open "TRIP PLANNER" in the garmin device, select the named trip and your away.

I'm not that good with computers but this has worked for me and saved on buying the Tom Tom Rider. ( Could be why none of the new tom toms accept itn files )

Hope this is of help?

We use a combination of TomTom and Garmin sat-navs for our blats and when I get sent an itn file I normally open it first in TYRE and then "file" "save as" a gpx file to a directory on my pc where I keep all of our routes.

To load it on my Garmin I then plug the sat-nav into the PC with the USB and using Windows Explorer I drag and drop the gpx file from the PC into the GPX folder on the sat-nav. :)
