I received my renewal for my breakdown recovery today. The nice people at Direct Line Rescue have decided to impose length restrictions on their recovery service and eliminated "recovery only" from their options. They are now asking more money for less. Before Direct line took over Green Flag the service from Green Flag was excellent and I could have trailer + car transported home with the tow vehicle no probs. Has anyone else looked into this and found the best company who will actually provide the best breakdown service for the competitor?

Any help / experiences much appreciated.

P.S. The RAC used to have links to the MSA but now their links have broken I guess the competitors packages have ceased?

I can confirm that the RAC no longer offer a competition car recovery service from events, a service that was once available for MSA Licence Holders which was unrestricted but then they added that the car must be accessible to their recovery vehicle (something to do with a special stage rally driver requiring recovery after falling off the side of a mountain I was advised!;).

I have read through my AA Relay terms and note that there is no mention of exclusions for competition cars but I guess it would always be better to get the remains onto the public highway and peel off the competition numbers!!

If anyone comes across a full cover scheme I would be interested as again it seems taht I will be driving to and (hopefully??) from the Speed Series events this year.  (What is a trailer anyhow -  I thougth it was the boring film that used to be shown before the big picture!

I havent had experience of breaking down on a 'circuit' but the exhaust did fall off my tow car on the way back from Llyden. I am with Britannia and they recovered me ..car and trailer.. with no problems.

Yes, the RAC have withdrawn competition car cover.  However the AA have stepped in to take over the business and specifically include competition cars as long as they are accessible to the recovery vehicle.  Therefore there is no need to tow it back to the road etc.  They also offer slight discounts for members of MSA clubs and pay commission to your club if you use the right form.

Will have to check my Green Flag small print now.

I took out cover with them a few years ago as I wanted my glider trailer covered. Everybody else had a length restriction (this trailer's 8 or 9 m long) and the trailer had to be of a "proprietary make".

Ian,

Does that apply to trackdays?

If yes, I'm an already existing AA member, would I be automatically covered in your view?
