Marty, only saw one but no problem. 

 

I do have a habit of not adding smiley thingies. I hope the text will be seen as being in jest. It's got me into trouble before now so I guess it's my fault.

It's a helpful convention for those that can't see the mischievous twinkle in your eye when you post!

 

Often times "a" post of a more conversational nature can be read several ways. I often find myself reading posts twice for that reason, as the first time, the "meaning" may be more affected by my mood/disposition at that moment that by the posters intent.

 

The smilies (annoying though I find them on one level) just provide a helpful prompt to interpretation.

 

Of course, the difficulty comes when, in an environment where smilies are used to show humorous intent, and you don't use them, there's a higher chance that your meaning will be taken seriously.

 

(it's one of those forum and not just ours either, conventions, that fascinates me!)
